TIPS (5) FOR PRESCHOOLERS - TEACHING SPATIAL POSITION


A 2 year old child is first able to distinguish ‘in’ and ‘out.’ Then s/he will eventually recognize front-back, top-bottom, left-right, and then near-far. Learning about spaces is revolutionary to a child. Adults understand the concept of space through many experiences but children cannot yet learn in this way. It is not necessary to teach too much in detail about specifics when first teaching about positions. We will need to guide our little ones constantly so that over time, they can intuitively and grasp the overall concept.

Keep this in mind when teaching little children about spatial position. The child should learn about directions within the total space and not think that right, up, left, down are separate. Usually, it is preferable to teach directions in the order of up/down, left/right, left/up, left/down, right/up, right/down.

JEI is very different from what I had thought it to be. Looked at the JEI books relating to multiplications and divisions for P2, very well structured and systematic. There are some drilling involve. The books and questions look more like made in America than made in Korea.


The psle problem sums worksheets is coloured with some graphics peppered here and there. It is organised into topics and question types as mentioned in this tread. The sample worksheets are all problem sums. The trainer explained that some worksheets have first two pages on operations. Probably will sign up my DS as he is weak in problem sums. However will hold back my little one first.

On the side note, there was a worksheet that say red bags with red balls etc etc. The question had a model depicting brown bags and brown balls. So I ask why, and the trainer explain that one of the developer is in fact colour blind. :shock:

Did you manage to take a peek at their classes? Sounds like you had a chance to visit their centre. I am also intending to enrol my 2 DD but yet to check out their centre @ Marine Parade

my girl is there. so far i find it ok but didnt really look thru every pc of wk. a bit lazy lately. but the teachers are nice and materials systematic. as for prob sums, there were some errors in terms of eg marbles become stamps halfway. i think becos they repeat the question type by tweaking the content a bit. but other than that, the materials are good. maybe can try just one term?

which class is your child in? I spoke to Jason (JEI) and he said K2 and K1 will be placed in the same phrase, I do like the small size of 6 students

didnt want my girl to miss lesssons cos sa2 coming, so i started at marine parade and will switch to amk in mid apr.

Wow, 24hr mum - you are preparing for SA2 already?

I agree with you. JEI is better than MPM. The methodology is more inline with the school methods. To be fair MPM did help to improve my DD mathematical logic. The main reason I switched is because I am not able to track what my DD learn with them as I can't keep the books. My DD forgets easily, so revision and regular reinforcement is very important to help her retain. Have been raising this issue to the owner but she won't relent. Also, heuristic problem sums is not covered in MPM.

Haven't experience enopi.

MPM hq doesnt allow parents to keep the wkbks. so called ‘patented’

but the bks quite easy and some questions i find it quite unproductive to just keep counting and counting tho the presentation of the question is different
