Appreciate if anyone can explain the reason for the correct answer :
Never before had anyone in the school swim/swam/swum/swims as fast as he had that day. -

It's hard for the school teacher to give more practice for compo. But if teachers can compile a booklet of good ones written by students, that would be great reading material to learn. Compo is an area which parents are not able to correct unlike grammar or vocab which has answers provided. My take is that practise is needed to improve on composition writing and the children are not getting enough of that during school hours. Outside school hours, they need to practise writing regularly on their own (one way is using method used by R). I think improvements will be faster if someone is able to mark their practise work correctly and plan improvement steps before the next piece of practise.
Hope to hear everyone's feedback.
I've signed up my son for compo writing class...starting this Sunday and I really hope his writing skills will improve. His compo is very borderline pass.
Any mummies here know how to improve comprehension cloze as well as comprehension OE ? -

I also agree that must write at least once a week outside school hour to get a better result. Recently dd teacher wants them to memorize certain given EL passage for weekly (something similar like CL mo xie ) test and I think this will also help in the long run.My take is that practise is needed to improve on composition writing and the children are not getting enough of that during school hours. That's great effort on the teacher's part to prepare the passages, spend time in class and marking the work. Let's hope we don't open a can of worms here to debate about memorising.........

Never before had anyone in the school swim/swam/swum/swims as fast as he had that day.
The answer should be 'swum' as the sentence is written in the past perfect tense : \"had swum\".
Sometimes, students are unable to see the connection as \"had\" is separated from \"swum\" by a string of words; in this case, \"anyone in the school\".
Hope this helps. -
