      Hi there

I need advice. My FDW has just finished her loan, and on the month (March) she finished paying her loan, she told us sob story of how her mom was going to die (we know it's not true because she's always of good appetite; singing; having fun with guys, telling my mum that her mum has died 2 days before, etc) and she wanted to terminate the contract and go home.

Since I knew it wasn't true, I told her to show me a doctor's letter with hospital letterhead and doctor's stamp.

Today I received the letter. It's photocopied, translated but there were some unclear parts, and no, no indication of seriousness of illness. When she showed me the letter and I rejected it, saying it wasn't how I wanted it, she sobbed and sobbed and went back to her room to mob (but her eyes after weren't even red).

So, eventually when we let her go, I want to let her go only as home leave since she still has not finished her 2-year contract. So I'm not going to allow her to take away all her belongings, and we're going to keep $500 which will be given back to her if she returns. Is that fair & just? We are even allowing her to go off for a full month. But we do know she has no intention to come back.

Right now, since she just finished her loan, she still doesn't have $500 in the bank yet though 😞

i would feel it's better to let her go as she is unwilling to stay. she will create trouble or even inconvenient ur family members? some i heard can be very drama.

Is she paying for the air ticket and embassy fees or are you?

My ex-maid also worked with me for a year+, once she finished her loan, no mood to work, stole my boy's phone and sms to Indonesia. I gave her a chance but she still no mood to work and told me that she felt something bad happened at home. So she called home and cried said her mum kana stroke and insisted to go back home. We eventually bought her a ticket to go home since she has no mood to work with here.. sigh !

These maids are so strange. Finish loan and can finally earn full salary and they decide to quite. Don’t know what’s going through their minds.

Probably she's here for holiday ! Eat free mah and get to go out with us. We brought her to M'sia, Sentosa, round Singapore etc.. and even brought her to Geylang during Hari Raya to let her feel the mood of their Hari Raya. We bought her a cake and celebrated her birthday as well. And yet, once she finished her loan, all sort of excuse and pattern came out. So disappointed with her.

Now i learn to be smart ! Will not treat my new maid so nice anymore !

In the contract, it’s stated that we should pay for her air ticket, no matter who terminate the contract. So yah, I guess it’s us.

Anyway, I have enough of her lies. I’ll probably tell her she will go back, but at the end of July (which just nice brings her to a year of work; she’s a transfer maid btw; only with me for 7 months or so) and I’ll still want to keep the $500.

Yes, she came here to play. I once checked her phone and the guy said something like, "I thought you said you’re going to f*** me before you go back to Myanmar?"

In December, she already said once that her mother was critically ill. We didn’t like that she so casually just assumed she wanted to go, and we had to let her go. I told her she could go back if she paid me the rest of the loan and she never mentioned going back again, until March, when her loan was paid. It was the same case in March. The fact is she has a contract with us. How can we let her go off so easily?! She just assumed she gave us notice and we should let her go.

Since she could wait from December till March, I don’t see how she couldn’t wait till July.

In actual fact, we do want her to go. She’s a nightmare. But I’m staying at my mum’s temporarily so will let her go when we get our new place in July.

I think these maids think they can come here and it’s easy life. And when reality bites, they just want to pack and go back.

Yes I too have learnt this lesson 😞

That's the problem. You want to treat them nicely because they're in a strange country and a strange environment. But not all of them appreciate it. Worse is when you realize you've been played out.

Her boyfriend wrote to her in English? Terrible, these maids.
