Hi Mummies with children in upper primary,
May I know what titles/authors for assessment books do you buy to prepare your children for CA/SA pls ? I’m getting a little worried preparing my son for his CA/SA as everything will be tested from this year onwards. -
Hi Janet,
For science, we use past year top school papers to prepare for sa and ca and that is already quite alot.
All the best.

Leanne:
I went through Science PSLE exam paper to see what kind of answers are expected. Answers provided are really detailed and what I like are the explainations to support the answer. Will ask my son to get 2011 next year.Hi Janet,

Hi Mummies,
I know we use past year exam papers to learn/study for CA/SA.
Earlier, I mentioned that Teachers' Circle doesn't seem helpful...definitely a mistake on my part. I read some questions in Science P5/6 and going through the answers
at the back. There are explainations provided beside the answer and mark allocation too. -

Hi Janet
We also use this book. I tear the answer sheet and let dd read through the answer key. -
Hi Janet,
My son did his PSLE last year and these are some of science resources we had ( can’t remember all - as most thrown/ given away alrdy) :
The Teachers’ Circle/ Teacher’s Network series
EPH Ultimate Science Guide
FBP Your Companion to Science - A Complete Guide to PSLE (personally like this for its detailed notes & layout) The equiv workbook Structured Revision Practice, which is on Sect B, we didn’t manage to do much - maybe only 10%. I still have this with me, those interested can get from me, I stay in the East, near Simei.
EPH Helen Lee’s Books
The orange Marshall and Cavendish PSLE book (Guidebk and Workbk) - these I found to be v.useful too.
Top schools exams papers - I find RGPS papers helpful as the answer sheet seemed to be the answer key from the sch itself - v.precise and marks allocation v. clear too. Other schools, after they’re completed by DS and I’ve gone thru with DS, I’ll flag those questions which I deemed to be good qns (aka spotting qns)
Oh, I almost forgot, there’s this book which DS’s sch recommended - Everyday Science for Primary Level by Teacher Works. Found that science concepts are explained in everyday scenarios; v.informative and interesting.
Just one last point, some of the hands on experiments we did together (on air, volume etc), I found it useful to use Yakult bottles to conduct the experiments. They are thin enough for us to poke holes through with a sharp scissors.
ALL THE BEST TO YOU! Can tell you’re a v.hardworking mum, but don’t burn out this year, pace yourself and your son so that he can peak at the right time next year. Cheers! -
Hi QuiteKSMum,
Thank you for the detailed list of items
Based on the items you mentioned, I am using these books to prepare son for P5 Science:
1) Teachers' Circle - P5/6: I like the notes (teachers' explainations behind and the breakdown of marks. Oh yes, RGPS past year exam papers also provides the answer key)
2) Ultimate Science (PSLE)
3) Science Process Skills - print out questions and fill in answers for purpose of exposure (aka spotting questions)
4) Primary 5/6 Learning Science (Systems & Cycles) by SAP
5) I've not seen Everyday Science for Primary Level before.
I'm doing what I can but trying to pace myself too...that feeling of burnt out takes time to recover and it's painful
experienced that when son was in P3. Thanks for your advice. -

The answers are simply great...what parents want to know like breakdown of marks and keywords. When my gal goes to P3, I will get it the Teachers Circle P3/4. -
