Jworld:
Thanks Jworld. I think I'll try with the apple first since dd is heaty and feeling under the weather today.I can't remember the herbs that were used. I think one of them is chun bei, wu hua guo, nan xin and bei xin. The rest can't recall. My mom just went to the TCM shop and they recommended to her. In any case, even boil the pear without the herbs are good enough, for cases like cough, bad throat. Not only you can the whole fruit's essence, but also at the same time take in a lot more fluid since it's a drink.
For Apple, quite easy. Just slice 3 - 4 apples, without peel. Boil with 1 litre of water until the apple is soft. throw away the apple and cool down the drink. Then you can start drinking. Good for fever condition. Even no fever, just a bit of heaty, also can drink. My daughter and I no fever. We both drank that last Saturday. -
oh i thot boiling fruits will kill the enzymes in them. and i thought fresh fruit juice better?

Not sure why fresh fruit juice doesn't give the same benefit. I also wonder. :? But last week, after drinking the apple water, I felt different. I usually get itchy throat in the evening esp if I don't have enough rest. But last Sat after drinking that, I didn't feel any discomfort in my throat ever since.
Some ppl also wonder why we don't just eat the fruit. But I guess if we drink the water, not only we get the good vitamins from the fruit, we are also taking in more fluid which is good for all the heaty and/or feverish condition. -
Jworld:
Heat destroys vitamin c and many other nutrients present in fruits. Even fruits that are stored for some time contains less vitamin c, research has shown this to be true.24hr-mum:

Apples are good because of the fibre and plenty of phytonutrients. There are many home remedies that recommend drinking apple water to reduce fever symptoms. Today I boil apples again cuz my daughter is down with running nose she caught from her classmates. As there was a lot leftover, so I drank some of it and am feeling less heaty now (this morning I was having some phlegm).Jworld:

You can try giving your child wolfberries and bilberries. I have extracted the health benefits of Bilberry as below :
Our conclusion For The Benefits Of Bilberry
Because of Bilberry's strong antioxidant composition, the herb makes an excellent free radical scavenger, which helps combat the cell damage that leads to premature aging and disease. The most noted benefit that we briefly discussed above, is its ability to treat a range of problems relating to ones eye health. For example, the herb protects collagen structures in the blood vessels of the eyes, thus promoting healthy capillaries that carry many vital nutrients, such as oxygen-rich blood to your eye muscles.
Various Studies have confirmed that the benefits of bilberry go even further than one might be aware of. The herb can be useful for protecting against macular degeneration, cataracts, night blindness, and poor or fading vision. We believe bilberry to be one of the best herbs available for the protection of ones eyes health. Clinical studies have even shown that if given orally to healthy people, it improves visual accuracy. Our conclusion is that everyone should consider consuming bilberry as it helps as part of an overall maintenance of ones health.
Other benefits of bilberry include treating menstrual cramps and helping aid stomach ulcers. Varicose veins, thrombosis, angina, and poor circulation may also be improved with the use of bilberry, as the herb helps with healthy blood flow.
Our last point to note is that bilberry contains a substance called glucoquinine, which has the ability to lower ones blood sugar levels significantly and its antioxidant, anthocyanin, within the herb itself, can reduce high blood pressure.
