Don't be so upset, Flipper123. To be given a chance to go for the debate is already a win!! :snuggles: It is a good exposure for you.

Actually many have the misconception that debating is about having excellent materials on hand and delivering that…

Don’t get me wrong, content is important in a debate, but its just as important to engage with your opponents and figure out what they are saying and how to work against that. Its always better to have a notes about the topic rather than fully written materials.

                Just my 2 cents worth…

Use logic to develop your case and make your points. Think about what the counter arguments are likely to be, so that you can work out your case in advance. Be open minded and prepared to change your opinion. Don’t get drawn into personal attacks. Stick to the subject being debated.

Just curious, why some school offers debating class yet others don’t? I always thought debates is very good for P5 and P6 students to build their confidence in speaking.

Kudos to schools that make their effort to have such classes.

I fully agree that more schools should try to get their pupils to be more active in debate. The problem is that many schools only try to take part in CCA's that they think they have a shot at winning and thus they 'calculate' that debate might not be worth spending their resources on... Very sad short term thinking...

You can consider going for OpenMinds Training’s debate courses conducted in the holidays. They are aimed at preparing your child/yourself for debate competition or just to get a headstart amongst your peers.

OpenMinds Training focuses on building structure to ensure young students learn the technique, not just the content.

You may PM me if you have any questions. Hope this helps!
