Thats sooo reassuring.verykiasu2010:
how is student discipline like for the school ?
My DD is 5th year at NUS High. Totally no discipline problem among all her friends.
As she is staying in hostel for this year, we can see that she is really independent and take charge of her daily routines very well.
Overall, most kids are really focus in their studies and research and have NO time to fool around or create problem....
DD is just in Year1 and i can already see lot of positive changes in her. Becoming more responsible and independent. So much so that i have to intentionally poke around and check just to reassure myself ...
Hardly any time to fool around. True . Thats both good and bad though  -

I had a completely different experience last year when I went to the open house. There was no sch tour, the students manning the booth were not really helpful or enthusiatic, the cca booth was the same, the students just stood there, no student approached us to check out their booth. We felt so lost and unwelcome, when we were looking for the sc labs, we asked a student where it was, he just looked at us and pointed left and then walked away, not even a smile from him  In the end, we gave up and left the sch after 40 min of 'don't know where to go, what to do'. I had very good experience at other sch's open house, and I was very impressed with the other schools, I am not the extremely demanding or the 'hard to please' parent.
Am shock to hear that!
Even before my DD got in Nus High which is 5 years ago, they already had school tours conducted by students and we were really impressed by them!
Guessed you had met the exceptional unfriendly student... but if I am not wrong, they had students and teachers from the first steps to the school and they would certainly show you where to go for registration and so on....
Will inform the teachers in charged and show them your posting for them to improve further.
But I am really quite puzzled.... sorry about being lost in Nus High.... -

We reached there at about 1pm, so maybe the sch tours were only in the morning? I remember when we reached there, we were asked to fill in name and email address, then we were on our own. I asked a student standing nearby where we were supposed to go and he gave me a blank look. So we walked around aimlessly and ya, a very unpleasant experience indeed! Actually, I was v keen on this sch for dd, but struck it off my list after the visit.sall:

Sure we will inform the teachers about that and especially that timing.

I am very sure about the 8.00am ~ 12.00pm slot that most of the councillors are helping out. My DD actually went off about 12.15pm for some external committment.
Will ask them to look for different batches of students to conduct for the afternoon slot.
But I have to reassure the other parents that most the kids of Nus High are bright, cheerful and definitely NOT \"blank\". Don't let that single student condemned the rest.....
I am sure your child is happy at RV (if I am not wrong) but many of the parents of Nus High students are equally satisfied with the curriculum and acceleration programmes introduced for our kids.
 -
Hi happymum8, yes, my girl is very happy in RV.
Actually, I wrote that not to tarnish the sch's image, but my experience was really v different from the other parent(sorry, forgot the name)

Hi Sall,
No worries!
In fact your post is great for the school to further improve and I am sure from this year's response, they have done well!
Part of the responsibilities as parents of the kids from the schools can help by conveying valuable comments for the committee! :celebrate: -
Hi parents,
My DS1 is interested in maths and science but totally petrified of mother tongue.
From what I read, I know the focus will be on Maths and Science. I understand that NUSH issued diploma by end of 6 yr. Can share how’s mother tongue like in this school? Does kids stop taking mother tongue after yr 4, or must continue till yr 6? Is mother tongue tested at O level or AO level? -

Hmmm...it was a pity your experience was quite the opposite of mine. Nevertheless, I'm sure the school would have made improvements each year as they gather feedback from the parents and others who attended their open house events. Nevertheless, my personal experience with them has indeed been a pleasant oneHi happymum8, yes, my girl is very happy in RV.

All students take mother tongue like the rest of the school though the emphasis is on maths and science.Hi parents,

DS took HCL and after getting an A1 for HCL taken at Year 4, she does not need to take chinese lesson anymore. This should be the same throughout most schools in Singapore.
For those taking HCL, you can take CL at Year 3 for 'O'Level and HCL at Year 4 for 'O' Level.
