      Hi Conniepng,

I think there's a little confusion. I meant that I liaised with the K2 teacher for other matters, not that she takes my son's class.
For the ratio of teacher to children probably you might want to bring it up to them. When I send my child to school, I normally see about 2 to 3 teachers in each class. I'm sure they have to follow MCYS regulations or else they would not be able to run the school.

I think whenever we hear someone say, ‘XYZ is good’, we tend to think all other centers or franchises relating to XYZ is good. Unfortunately, not all centers are the same. And as ChiefKiasu has voiced my sentiment, the teachers are the most important. I have ever sat in my boy’s class before in one of the trial classes, and was horrified to see the teachers not being able to control the class. I don’t mean ‘control’ in military sense of the word, but she was not able to build a relationship with the students. ANd not just her, other teachers as well. It was a pity, because the school was quite reputable. So parents may think we are sending to a premium school, but actually I felt that the teachers were spending a lot of time just quietening the class such that there was no time to carry out the curriculum. The teachers were also not consistent in their teaching, for instance when one boy mis-behaved she wanted to ‘punish’ him by not giving him the toy, but within a minute, he was given the toy. And she did that a couple of times. I immediately switched my boy out.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. I hope to ‘work’ with a teacher who shares the same sentiments in my discipline and education towards my children. If you can’t trust the teachers, the relationship you will have with the teacher will not be good. Although I did give my feedback to the school, I know I cannot put my child there, at least before they improve.

Hi, I'm also a parent from MMI Sengkang. Even though my child is from another class, I have spoken to the K2 teacher many times concerning other issues.
I would agree with you when I first liase with her. But after a few interactions with her, my opinion changed. Its more her personality then her attitude.
I know some of her K2 parents and while chatting with them, they gave quite good feedbacks that their children have improved quite a lot.
Probably you should communicate more with her.
Hi, thinking of placing my daughter next year when she turns 2. However, heard that a teacher who recently abused a child from MMI Kovan has been transfer to Sengkang to take the playgroup class. So scary. have you heard about this incident? Please comment.

hi, my kid is attending MMI Sengkang too. Fellow parents, does the form teacher update the Comms book regularly? What do they normally write in there?

Does your Montessori trained child perform in Pri 1 better than other traditional trained kindergarten?

                  I need some opinions.

My p1 elder child was not from a Montessori school(other than a short period as a toddler in Babies Inc Montessori), but my second one is currently in one. I am writing to share that from my experience teaching primary one children, I did not notice Montessori educated children taking up all the top positions in a class, not even once.

That said, I also wish to share that after comparing the differences between my second child and the first, I think a good Montessori education is better for my own children. My elder child was not as advanced as the second (at the same age) although my second child hit most milestones later than the first when they were babies. Then again a sample of 2 children is probably too small for any significance

                      I need some opinions.
One of the key reasons why Montessori education is losing its lustre in academic-mad Singapore is that it has been accused of not preparing children well enough for the rigours of Singapore's Primary school. Opponents claims that the method is too unstructured and free for children to derive any real academic value. However, studies across the world show that Montessori-educated children are generally more creative, assertive and matured, able to manage unpleasant situations better, and have a greater sense of community. The method do not rely on traditional competitive measurements of achievements using exams or tests, but focuses on the individual progress and development of children.

IMHO, exposure to Montessori education provides long-term character development and gives children a sense that they are in control of the situation, that they can make things happen, and it is ok to fail as long as they can learn from it, make adjustments, and try again. This leads to self-esteem, a critical component of effective learning and personal growth.

So, one way is to couple Montessori childcare education with weekly academic enrichment sessions to create a balanced programme for preschoolers - assuming you can afford the time and money.

Thanks. My boy is now 3 years old and he attends daily Montessori classes Mon-Fri and Sunday playgroup at a traditional playgroup for worksheets and socialise. I’m still not sure ifI should transfer him to a Montessori full day programme.
