Glad to share... He did well enough to be offered HCL. But his sec sch actually actively encourages students to take up HCL. Even if you are not offered the HCL option, you can still \"appeal\" to take, approval is almost automatic...So for his sch, a govt sch, there are actually more pupils taking HCL than CL...

We are in same boat. I want to push harder but I don't want to push too hard. Also, sometimes I run out of steam. Yes, 2 weeks to SA1 now. Just do our best with whatever time left.

Hehe...just realised I've used the word \"Glad\" many times in my previous posts. Think subconsciously, I must be v. GLAD that this PSLE thing is now way behind me!


Mummies facing the PLSE ordeal this yr ( or even those next yr...) - take heart that this period will pass ( but just need to grit your teeth & stay focus for those few mths). You WILL be able to see the rainbow after the \"thunderstorm\". :celebrate: :celebrate:

A combination of methods, memorization included ( but was also \"torturous\" for son). We memorized some gd compo phrases, cheng yu, oral phrases (with variety of topics) & some typical ans to OE Compre qns wh ask for views/take on certain person/scenarios...


We had to do this esp during his P6 yr last yr as the lang doesn't come naturally to him & due to time constraints issues. We supplemented \"aggressively\" with more reading after PSLE (with all the time in the world after mid Oct)... Glad to say althou he's doing HCL now ( he didn't do last yr), he is enjoying the lessons & coping well, IMO. :celebrate:

Glad to know your ds is taking HCL in the Secondary school now. DD is also not taking HCL now but she is looking forward to take HCL in Sec One. :lol:

Yes. We left about 5 months+ to tahan and the problem will be over soon. We will do more drilling after SA1 and cut down all these once the school reopen at term 3.

My elder son who's poor in Chinese also got by PSLE by lots of memorisation. Their school CL teacher drilled them at it. Had lots of \"mo xie\" to make sure they memorised lots of stuff. This son got \"A\" for his CL. Not a great feat, since some 70-80% of singapore students get A for CL in PSLE? But a great feat for a boy that was always getting C & B and never an A. I never allowed him to do HCL in upper pri.

And yes, he's doing HCL in sec, now in sec 2. It's compulsory in his school.

So yes, memorisation has it's plus points. Now our younger one is doing some memorisation on his own accord too. This boy is a consistent \"A\" for CL and getting \"merit\" for HCL. So hope he does even better.

Seems like the way HCL is conducted in sec sch is v.interesting-
q. a lot of grp & indiv proj works wh are not related to the txtbks. Hence, interest can be sustained... ( even thou the dry stuff like cheng yu, ting xie are still there - on an even more intensvie lvl! Many mini class tests too. Sorry think :offtopic: )

Now I can also see dd has more cheng yu, new vocabulary tie xie and mo xie during this period. I think getting an \"A\" should not be a probelm so long as compo. don't write out of point.
