      Hi Parents,

Do you have problems with the chapter on Cells ?
Nothing seems to register in my head and when son asks me, I'm at a loss.
Janet... I'm a bit worried for you... though of course, I am not a good one to talk 'cos I was a nervous wreck 8 weeks ago. Would it be good for you to take a bit of pressure off yourself and get your kid to google on cells, and teach YOU.

Cells included in SA1, together with Air & respiratory system...that's for Systems.
Everything for Cycles, which is quite ok as compared to cells (very dry and boring).

Here is a Teach Less Learn More idea I did with my son lately. I asked him to research on how air con refrigerant gas and air con compressors work to cool the air in the room. He googled and learnt...

            (1) the 3 states of matter
            (2) that pressure raises boiling point of liquids
            (3) that evaporation takes away heat from the surroundings

Another TLLM science idea could be...
Why is it that at high altitudes, boiling does not kill all the bacteria in the food? This teaches roughly the same thing. Taught this way, there is little need to revise. Learning is better retained.

            Just my 2 cents...
Youtube has a lot of interesting science experiments. You should try the one where they put a tube of menthols in a diet coke 2liter bottle. The pressure builds up to a point where upon opening the bottle cap, the coke shoots up to 5m above ground. It's fun for the kids, not sure about the educational value though. ๐Ÿ™‚ I guess you can link that to chemical reactions.
My DS told me one day that he was very interested in chemistry. I was taken aback as there's no chemistry at the primary level. There was a glimmer of hope that there might be a chemistry genius lurking within DS brain. Upon further digging, he said he was interested in the explosions. So much for that chemistry genius theory.
Speaking of that, I'll better look into buying additional fire insurance for the house.

Hey cool... I go find. We tried the one where we heated up a Milo tin. He was 5 and most impressed when the tin lid flew off in an explosion. They LIKE explosions. I also like. ๐Ÿ˜„ This one teaches about how heat expands stuff.

does anyone know whatโ€™s the difference between Pri 4 Science SA1 and SA2 topics ? I had a look at the SA2 papers and it seems to rehash all the topics from SA1. Whatโ€™s new in SA2 thatโ€™s not found in SA1 ?

whatโ€™s the recommended time to be spent on Science Booklet A and Booklet B in the exams ?

P4 SA1 usually covers what is taught up till then.
For SA2, all the 5 topics will be tested ie Diversity, Systems, Cycles, Interaction & Energy.

Booklet A comprises 60 marks. So it's best to try and score in that section. Booklet B requires more effort & thinking to answer the questions.

Yes, agrees with Janet - being telling DD1 to be careful and reads the MCQ to pick up keyword(s) then attempt to it. ๐Ÿ˜„

Today we also whole day at home as dd was given EL, Maths, Science and CL school test paper as homework. EL and Maths are quite alright that can finish fast except the Science papers that has to spend time to check through the guide book or google in order to answer the questions.
