The past 2 days we revised CL vocabulary. He has shown more cooperation this round. Hopefully these are signs he is maturing.

Good for you, Jennifer! Maybe there are less bullying or disciplinary issues in a better class so he is also able to learn better on the whole?

I believe so. The teachers are all ON type too.[/quote]Good boy! and Good teacher! :celebrate:

        She had given 4 compos

The first piece came back with her short comments but not graded. She told them to rewrite the FIRST piece, though there are minimal mistakes. This morning, the class marked their second piece. It will be a miracle if all 4 pieces can be returned before next Wed, marked and graded.

For the correction of composition by pupil each other only, some points of view maybe differ...We may refer to the essay '谈谈小学生习作批改', but it is talking about chinese compo,
          another,
Anyway, in what form to make correction is not important, the most attention is the real teaching quality.

            Lizhi,

I understand your standpoint very well. Thanks for your sharing. I had intended to also mention that if she had done it at the beginning of this term, I would think that it would still be fine because there might be something for them to learn from their compo-correcting experience in good time. I also agree that reading and commenting on others’ compositions help in opening up more ideas. However, FT’s directions were unclear and I believe her objectives were to get them to premark the grammar, spelling and punctuation errors only, not to make any comments or to gain ideas. I somehow can’t help it, but have this feeling that she is making use of their strengths in English to conduct this compo-correcting exercise. I doubt any teacher will attempt to do that for a weaker class. I relented, it’s my over-reaction saying that this practice was shocking but I am concerned about whether she had done it at the right time, and whether she had made herself clear that it was meant to be a constructive exercise?

I could be the last person to be concerned because I can still guide my own dd but I felt sorry for those who really needed more reassurances from the teacher. Wouldn’t it be to late for any of them to catch up at the last minute?

                E3:
                FT's directions were unclear

I asked my elder boy abt this practice during his upper pri years in PH. Never once had the EL teachers carried out this \"pupil cross-check compo\" exercise. During his P5/P6 years, the cohort was sorted by EL overall marks.

I am unsure if this year P3 cohort is sorted according to P2 EL overall marks. I know for sure this year P4 cohort is not as mentioned by the FT during the PTM in Mar.

If a pupil's command of EL is not strong, mistakes/errors might not be sighted. Hence the objective of learning from another's mistakes is not achieved.

If a teacher wants to carry out an unusual practice, then I would feel more comfortable if she sends out a simple note to the parents or at least let the pupils know n to relate the msg to the parents.

                Just my 2cts worth.

It's worth more than 2cents, Jennifer. P3 cohort was banded according to P2 overall marks for first 3 classes. The rest were S-banded.

                    Pm u.
