It's my fault. I am a complete idiot when it comes to this. Let me properly do it with the online petitions thing yeah? Wait a bit...
I would suggests putting in a target number you want to achieve, and the actions you will be taking once the target has been achieved, so people will know the road forward.cimman:
I am seriously looking into the online petitions website to do this better. Need time.
oh yes, there is a need for change. err. I just don't know how to put my name in. I can't seem to find a place to click and register my name. :?
We can look at the education systems around us in the region, China, Hong Kong, India. Students from these regions are well known for their Maths (India, China), Science (China), English (India) abilities. Further abroad, we can look into the western education system for ideas as well.
The culture in the Asian region is pretty similar to us, so we will most likely find something we can adapt straight away. The Western education system, we can look at it and most likely will have to change aspects of it to fit it into our culture. -
Yes, I support this petition. Please add my name in the list.
Thanks for starting this … -

Thank you Faun, Ksi, Cimman for your suggestions. Chief has offered to put the blogpost on the front page, and as you can see, he has kindly separated this thread out again and allowed me to create a poll. Thank you Chief!!
Until he has time to push it to front page, the post is in here - http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/psle-standards-are-runaway-train-even-teachers-cant-cope-so-kids-need-tuition -

Need to cast... sorry for the trouble. -
That was an incredibly insightful and analytical post, really got me thinking. I suppose one question is whether we have already reached the limit of what we can achieve on an individual and group basis. Your HR analogy is a good one, but may be flawed on the account that it assumes that the rest of the world remains static. In fact, the economic example, especially what we can observe in the world today, suggests that there is in fact a rachet. I.e., a Bachelor’s may have been good enough 10 years ago, but now you need a Masters degree, in 20 years, perhaps you need a PhD. The academic bell curve has shifted rightwards in the last 20 years. Perhaps we are still pushing the upper limits with better nutrition, nurture and education, and it may well be that we do not yet know where the true bell curve lies.

In fact, the economic example, especially what we can observe in the world today, suggests that there is in fact a rachet. I.e., a Bachelor's may have been good enough 10 years ago, but now you need a Masters degree, in 20 years, perhaps you need a PhD. The academic bell curve has shifted rightwards in the last 20 years. We have lived in USA and France... and still have ties to these countries. I reckon that if our kids can handle PSLE with a 280, they're ready for some of the less well-known universities in such countries.
It is astute of you to note that the bell curve keeps us up to date with the competition. I reckon that few people would have noted the impact of not at all following the curve. :salute: It's delightful to have someone understand the post in its entirety and even see beyond it.
We are soulmates!!
It's like the car's accelerator. You can press the pedal down to the bottom all the time... or you can scan the competitive horizons and modulate the degree to which to adjust the standards. It needs to be a nuanced approach where the bell curve is used with skill and sensitivity... Right now, the pedal is way down to the floor and the train is running away. -
Those of you who signed the petition already, can you please vote again? Thanks!!
