I suppose it depends on whether your dd is more keen on ballet or chinese dance. No point sending her to ballet class if she enjoys chinese dance more, and vice versa.

How serious would serious be? Some of the lessons at cc are quite serious too. Otherwise it would be sba, or palais dance studios, those which are purely ballet studios.

          hi,

Does anyone know where to purchase the white tights? I don’t need the high-end ones, just normal ones, as I my dd just started her ballet class at cc and I don’t know if her interest will be sustained. thanks.

Hm people usually wear pink tights instead of white for ballet. Are you sure it’s white? Maybe it’s just faded pink, because my pink tights faded and it looks like white tights. Anyway you can get them from Costume Connection, highest floor in Golden Landmark at Bugis. That’s by far the cheapest shop that sells dancewear that I know of. Otherwise there’s Sonata, Stage Image (also at Bugis) or ask the dance teacher. Usually my dance teacher will get us dancewears.

need advice again. let's say, my dd is joining 4 yo class now for ballet. no grading. next year will have grading.. she is with dancepointe.. if she is serious about picking up, which school is recommended ? as in proper ballet grading and all ? thanks to share ur experience.

The grading will start from pre-primary, primary, grade 1,2,3……..If she is serious on picking up, it is good to have the grading exam yearly in order to get the parallel reorganization compare with the same age ballerina, this is also benefit if she consider to apply DSA via Dance as min grade 5 is required for most of the school accept DSA Dance.

My friend had been learning ballet at SBA since young, and she said the teachers there are really really really very good. I suppose all their teachers are equally good. Generally, as a rule of thumb, it is not encouraged for young children to practice ballet at home as they might do the exercises with wrong technic and it’ll be difficult to correct it. What they do would be stretching.

                        hi twilight,

Thank you very much for your swift reply ! :dancing:

my girl now 3.5. The admin lady from SBA said the youngest age to start ballet is K1. Then, she placed my girl's name in the waiting list - such a long waiting queue list already, gosh!

she said around March 2012 next yr - SBA will contact me, bring my girl down, let ballet teacher assess her:

                        - see if she can follow simple dance instructions, (dun cry if mommy not around).

she said if my girl can pass the assessment, then around April or June next year, new ballet classes will be formed. Then they will start new classes. Each session duration is 45 mins, accompanied by another teacher playing music on piano. I forgot to ask her how much is school fees per Term.
