        Thanks for prompt response. My son is so dissappointed as he got a different answer. He is perstering me to ask another question:-

        Mr Lim has some sweets and packets. When he packs the 4 sweets per packet, there would be 15 sweets left. When he packs 6 sweets per packet, there would be 3 sweets left. How many sweets does he have?

        Thanks.

          This is a P4 question?
          Using Lowest Common Multiple

          Multiple of 4 plus excess of 15
          19,23,27,31,35,39
          Multiple of 6 plus excess of 3
          9,15,21,27,33

          So the answer is 27.

            What answer did he get? He has to remember that for any given total distance between 2 items, must always add the last item to close the boundary of the total distance. This is a common mistake kids will make, take 24/3 = 8.

            As for this new question, usually the question is given such that both packages will face a constraint, eg pack of 4 left 3,2,1 but in this case, left over is 15, so is rather unusual but it can be solved.

            Here's my logical check and guess answer:
            Multiples of 6 < 18 is not possible since remainder for pack of 4 is 15.
            18 -> 18+3 – 15 = 6 (not divisble by 4)
            24 -> 24+3 – 15 = 12 (divisible by 4)

            So he has 27 sweets.
            Pack of 6, remainder 3
            Pack of 4 for 12, remainder 15

              Hi

              This is a question on Gap and Difference or Excess and Shortage.

              15 – 3 ------ 12
              6 – 4 ------ 2
              12/2 ------6

              There are 6 packets
              Number of sweets ------- (4*6) + 15 ------- 39

              Best wishes

                  Apple x Pear = 60
                  Apple x Apple x Pear = Apple x 60 = 360
                  Apple = 360/60 = 6
                  Apple x Pear = 6 x Pear = 60
                  Pear = 60/6=10
                  Pear x Pear x Pear = 10x10x10=1000

                    Apple x (Apple x pear) = 360
                    Apple x 60 = 360
                    Apple = 360/60 = 6

                    Pear = 60/6 = 10

                    Pear x Pear x Pear = 10 x 10 x 10 = 1000

                        Apple x (Apple x pear) = 360
                        Apple x 60 = 360

                        Thanks Ksi and Teh_oh! 😄 but why is that pear (60) still has to divide by 6?[/quote]Because Apple x Pear = 60.
                        Apple is 6, so to find pear, have to 60/6.
