Daddy 😧
Social media shakes up Singapore political terrain

        http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_singapore/view/1128130/1/.html

\"...Popular blogger Lee Kin Mun, who runs the satirical site mrbrown.com, said the PAP was not used to the spontaneous, two-way communication in social media.

\"They have full control of the media here, so you've got mainstream media, papers and TV stations and radio stations toeing the line for you and disseminating your views, your spin to the public,\" he told AFP.

\"Now you can't be shielded any more... You tell people to 'like' you on your Facebook page, I will 'like' just to go in there and say something I don't like about you,\" he added....\"

Moral of the story? Don't anyhow add friends or ask people to 'like' your facebook page?
Oh, I thought the bigger lesson will be to listen, understand and respond to the people you serve, whether are they your citizens, customers or employees.

From what I saw this election, I agree with the writer.

Those very few who spoke up for PAP usually get slammed like crazy.
          There’s no balanced debate.

Maybe I didn’t look in the right places.

Btw, why is there such a trend ? Any ideas ?

not necessarily. also got pro-PAP ones
Social media tends to incline towards libertarian view and since PAP is more of authoritatrian and conservatism in its principle, it will seems that most view in social media is \"anti-PAP\". Extending this view, it is natural that party that embrace a libertarian view will garner most its support from new social media. In fact, in its very spirit, social media represents support at its core, libertarian view, which is the freedom of exchange of ideas, free competition of ideas and freedom of speech. This is contrary to a repressive atmosphere where the authority claims monopoly of absolute truth and thus seek to appress alternative views and ideas.

Freedom of speech and ideas are great, our society also needs to progress at the same time such that we can engage in \"intelligent debate\" (a term used by Nicole Seah)
I can understand when one of forummers said that one of her friends responded with \" We lost GY\" after receiving a Happy Mothers' Day text message... frankly I felt like that too.

We can both cry together then!
                  😢

How about Mr Ong who waited until his father passed on before joining the PAP and yet not even have the chance of a foot into Parliament? The newspapers reported that he went to pay his father respect after the election. I wonder what went through his mind? 😢
\"Dad, you were with the Opp before, fighting for democracy. I have never realized what you went through until I witnessed how the WP fought this round. I wished I had joined the WP :stupid: \"

I too wonder why this GE social media seems to play a bit part compared to 2006. Probably in 2006, social media was not so \"matured\" then or maybe i wasn't so into surfing the net yet? :imanangel:  Social media is no longer about \"advertising\" yourself, but what others comment about you.

can get a lot of interesting alternative views from these social media... it sort of balance up with the traditional media which are pro-pap?

Social media simply reflects how the netizen felt.

And most of the time, it consists of mainly the display of facts that would be \"covered up\" by the MSM.

On the other hand, MSM is definitely pro-PAP.

Seems more like a case of the pot calling the kettle black?

bcoz most of the MIW replies are.. insulting to the pple.

For e.g. fuel price up.. they up the fare, saying higher operating cost.. But fuel price down, they never reduce the fare, claiming forget what reasons..

Then, as the cost of living became an issue, they raise the price again and LTA approved it.. and then they posted record profits..

So, you ask yourself, is the Govt serving the pple or serving corporations?
