      pixiedust,

Just thinking whether it might be useful to have a new thread under the sec sch networking grp to "appeal" for feedback on those 2nd tier or even 3rd tier (as further backup) schs. These parents, with sec sch kids, q.likely won’t come to this P5 thread - might be easier to get 1st hand account if post there.

I’m v.sure there’s such gd schs around … just that we are not enlightened yet …

          Pixiedust,

P5 is a little early to decide on DSA or not. However, you can see and check out on your choice secondary schools' DSA criteria in case you choose to do DSA in P6. Most DSA will still require students to excel academically or excel in some CCA / sports / other areas and collect some certs or awards in P5 / early P6 to apply.

Usually by end P5, you will have a much better gauge (after all the initial P5 CA and SA scare) of your kid's standard / level and where they stand. You can then zoom in on target schools by then.

As for now, if you have intention, no harm bringing them to visit some open house to get them motivated to work harder. As my fren said: \"Aim for the moon, and if you finally can't reach, you may still reach the star\" (actually stars are further away than moon hor :scratchhead: ??)

It might be useful to have a look here :

            http://www.channeleducation.com.sg/Primary-and-Secondary-Schools-by-Planning-Areas.php

Areas, COP etc are listed there. But think it's updated till 2009 results (2010 sec 1) so far.
            :celebrate:

pixiedust, actually originally was thinking of the idea of you writing a 感性 kind of post in the sec sch networking thread ... or even posting in the individual sch thread ( those schs that you are interested in) to ask for feedback ... 😄

                JRLam:
Hi. Is SCSS = Swiss Cottage Sec Sch?

I heard that Commonwealth Sec Sch is a good 2nd-tier sch, COP abt 235+. My neighbour, who is a lawyer, was actually quite disappointed when her son didn't get into the likes of HCI, but now is very pleased with him in Commonwealth Sec. She said the principle and teachers there are sincere and she can feel the good vibes 🙂
YES!! This is the kind of school I'm talking about!
Need this kind of \"testimonial\" for a secondary school in the East.

Coincidentally, I spent last evening working with a very nice lady - one year out of university - who spent her primary years in the BEST primary, sec and JC. The elite, branded one...

Surprise, surprise, she fully understood my thinking and reasoning and feels \"best\" schools are over-rated and agreed wrt the lack of teaching. She wasn't happy with the teachers in the sec school and JC.

I explained that I do want the best... but the best for DD which may not be how the rest of S'pore defines the \"best.

                Just to share...

You are very inspiring. I had been mulling over doing this... but I had not the courage.

                    pixiedust:
SJI is too far ? No ? I still prefer to keep travelling time to minimium if possible as I think the school days will be long and many activites.
Sec school hours are very long...so I want to keep travelling to minimum
I would like my son to go to SJI. ACS COP is 240...cousin's son is there (school hours until 5/6pm).

Today is the last paper...for the next 2 weeks recuperate from all the exam madness and then pick up again in June.

                      Hi, QuiteKSMum,

                      sounds like a good idea.

                      PixieDust,

Think there're 2 ACS - ACS (I) - the \"better\" one in terms of COP & ACS (Barker) - mostly students are fm their affiliated schs.

Yes, sec sch hrs are long - almost every day affair to reach home ard 4pm ( non CCA days). Plus the dreadful waiting times for public transport, it's really

Today is also the last day of exams for us - long weekend ahead ... (Mon marking day, Tue Vesak Day) ... really looking forward ... 😄
