That is good to boost their confidence. Actually it is uncommon for PH to have easy papers during SA1, usually they have it tough CA1/SA1 and then easier during SA2.
Errrrrrr ....
my boy said one classmate said \"100 times easier than CA1\". Another mate said \"more like P3 standard\". :scratchhead:dyh:
My boy claimed he can bring back full marks for this paper  of course I dun believe him lah.
Maybe Want to Help Students Get Some Good Results to spice up the Academic Results for DSA?

Now i am getting worried about the compo becos my son picked the non-pic one. and sometimes his imagination does run wild when writing a story. :nailbite:
I did not hear abt the arrangement from my boy with regards to the backup compo. Surprised he forgot to tell me.Mum1113:
P4 EL picture vs non-picture compo.
Was surprise when ds2 shared that whole class did once only, and probably few weeks ago before SA1. T informed that the marks will not be reviewed to students and would be 'used' as a backup marks for students not able to turn up for actual Paper 1 during exams. This is to help those who fall sick and for certain reasons not taking the paper 1. This sounds good I thought....
Though it's first time hearing this, so kinda surprise. When crossed check with ds1 whom also aware there is such 'arrangements' in PH. Surprise of such 'secret arrangements' as probably me was LF in the past years and haven't heard of such things before.
But the more important point or surprise is that non-picture compositions was done just once, and that's it ! Then paper 1 component comprises of 2 choices for students to choose from ie picture which students are exposed to already (not too many though) and vs. non-picture which students have done just once.
Btw T informed class that one student failed as out-of-point for attempting non-pic compo. As for those who did picture compo, T also informed class to expect some scoldings next week when distributed back to class.
Haizx...don't know which category mine falls under..
He also did not mention abt the \"expect some scoldings\" next week. :xedfingers:
my son did tell me about the pre-exam arrangement. -

I do not think it is appropriate to include non-pic compo in P4 SA1 becos the exposure/guidance/practice is lacking in class.Jennifer:
I remembered my elder boy had lots of class assignments (almost once a week frequency) to train for such compo type. I feel that it is not right to include this type of compo in SA1 for P4. Those pupils who chose to write this compo type made a very bad choice. Poor thing.
Don't think it's anything wrong to attempt Non-Pic Compo ....
Even if the Kids Got it OFF Topic ....
Think it's a Good Attempt Now, and Know where they Go Wrong Now, then can improve on it, Not to Commit Such Mistake again ....
My Gal Much Prefers Non-Pic, Says these R More Challenging
Can Exercise Your Imaginations, Not Limited to write within the confines of the Pic ....
By the Way, She Got Write OFF Topic before in Exam ....
But with that Hard Lesson Learnt,
(She Was Very Disappointed with the Poor Results then ....)
And ....
She Yold Me She Will NEVER-NEVER Commit the Same Mistake Again ....
We dun know for sure whether the teacher will be returning the compo paper to the class, nor whether the mistakes are analysed and the pupils understand where they went wrong.
Like I say, even at P5/P6, my elder boy had lots of practice in non-pic compo before he could produce a piece of good work (scoring > 35/40). -
Jennifer:
Think sch is trying to expose our kids to some elements of non-confined, non-well drilled kind of environment in setting these Q.

But am Pretty Sure the T will definitely list down the DOs and Where-Go-Wrongs for the Kids if this particular set of Compos is Done bad-ly for Most Kids .... -

My ds was a TLL 'reject', haha. Didn't make the cut during the proficiency test last yr. That's when I realised that even though ds reads a lot (by my standard), answering open ended questions requires a totally different skills set altogether.
Then, I was \"onz\"er to coach her on her daily revision. She did assessment, topical in advance of her lessons. I followed Maths/CL texts syllabus. CL, I added oral, compre, vocabs and compo. As for EL, I used selected assessment books, and covered mainly 4 mains areas, Vocabs, Compre, Grammars and Compo(CW). Your son is with TLL and/or other classes, right? I think he is in good hands.
As for school teaching, if the teacher is 'onz', more teachings, I believe most PH teachers will cover sufficient for the level needs, for others, they adopt the infamous 'Teach less, learn more' philosophy.
Reading is a great way to learn too. Did your ds's EL tr start a class library for them?
Yeah, reading must be the most effective way to pick up the language. I'm starting to get ds to read chinese novels independently. So far, no resistance detected. Phew!

Oh My Gal also say this year SA1 Maths Paper is Easier ....
Heh, it seems like P4 and P6 papers this SA1 are not that type that aim to kill their morale? My P5 son's papers have so far been quite challenging as far as he is concerned ... esp Maths P2 .. he left blank for the last few questions :stupid:
Any feedback on P5 papers?
Hopefully tmr's Sci can at least restore some of his confidence ..

Yes, I told my boy the same thing...Science is one of his better subjects, so hope he can do well and boost his confidence a little. He was reading the OE Q&A yesterday and trying to remember the keywords. Told him to stop at 1030pm and go to bed. -
