      Chenonceau:
      cimman:

Sometimes I think the schools have this oneupmanship behaviour. They want to raise the bar above PSLE.

In the West, when they want children to improve, they encourage them. Over here, we put them in a negative light to spur them on....\"see, your grades are so bad, you really must buck up\", looks like the schools have this attitude. Something must be really wrong in our way of thinking.

Yes... it is counterproductive. Negative energy is not motivating. I have to work very hard to temper the effects of negative energy from the school.

      Firstly, cimman, appreciate your comments.

Secondly, Chenonceau, that's my no. 1 issue too.

Spent the weekend telling DD that she's progressing well and explaining to her why the exams were so tough etc. All the things shared here, I shared with her.

I asked about how here friends were coping and she shared that there were quite a few who failed. I hope their parents see the bigger picture too.

Janet and the other fans of popular,

I went to two Populars yesterday - Parkway and BBC.
Bought an ACES (which is usually impressive) comprehension skills booklet (the test paper kind that looks like the science test papers) and was very disappointed. Compre passages very amateurish, with spelling errors.

          Hi Peony,
I am fussy when I flip through compre passages in assessment books bcos those used for CA/SA are not easy...avoiding those which 'appear' amateurish like what you mentioned. Same goes for comprehension cloze as these 2 sections carry high marks. Bought Science Explorer (Ace Publication) for P3-4 as exposure.

            Janet,

Their science series are much better. Am usually discerning but it was scotched taped all over - now I know why! - so I based it on "good reputation".

              Hi Peony,
My son's P5 'Systems' book is like salted vege already...Ace should have used a thicker book cover. I avoid 'Science' section in Popular now. Think I really have enough until P6 next year. Keeping Process Skills and Ace P6 till next year. My younger daughter asked son last night, \"gor gor, why is your book so crumpled ? How am I going to use it next time ?\"

I seem to be the only one here receiving DD’s SA1 results… science in… now left maths and MT only.

ASLMUM, welcome to this thread and congrats on your dd’s excellent result.

I haven’t seen the papers yet but marks for EL paper 2, EL listening, CL paper 2 all out.

Brenda - it is quite good your dd’s school gives the oral score. Past years, ds’s school only release the total mark but not the breakdown of oral, paper1, paper2. I hope this year they will let us know.
