Need some advise. DS permanent teeth has started sprouting behind his milk teeth but the milk teeth shows no sign of coming off. Should I just leave it or extract the milk teeth?

Best to bring to a dentist for advice. Most times, we just let the milk teeth naturally fall out, but sometimes, may need dentist intervention. Otherwise, with the milk teeth in there, it will cause over-crowding and as the permanent teeth have no space in the mouth to sprout and grow properly, it may cause mis-alignment. Then must need braces after that.

Now my next question. Anyone can recommend a child friendly dentist? Going to a dentist can be a scary experience for a kid. Hope to find a good one so that if we do bring DS for a check, he will not be put off by it after that.

DS1 is currently having the same thing! We saw a dentist and he said to wait for 1month to see if bb tooth will drop off by itself. otherwise extraction may be required. It's been almost a month. The bb tooth is still not very shaky. We are going to the School Dental Service this Thurs, my guess is he will be having his first extraction :scared:

btw you may wan to try School Dental Service, i find them pretty professional and child-frendly. cheap too downside is appointment can be weeks down the road.

Currently, DD1 goes to Dr Phoon Kee Hoon of Twin City Dental for her orthodontic treatment. We are both very happy with her.

I'm not sure how she is with younger children. She sees a lot of teens and young adults. But I think she must be very gentle. DD1 actually feel asleep during one of the treatments. I was amazed, how can one fall asleep sitting in a dentist child :roll:

Just called the School Dental Services. Next available date is in September. Think too long a wait.

Think I will wait a couple of weeks to see if his milk teeth start giving way. If they do then no problem, if not, then looks like no choice, gotta go private.

When I called to enquire last year, the estimated quote given was between $4,000 - $4,300 over a period of 2-2.5 years. The price range is for the use of ceramic braces. During the first assessment, it was found that dd1's teeth may have some slight complication, hence the projected longer period of treatment and slightly higher cost.

If one were to use normal metal braces and if it is a straightforward orthodontic case, I think treatment usually takes about 1.5 - 2 years.

However, having started treatment with dd1's current dentist, her teeth is aligning well and what was an initial complication is now a non-issue. Thank goodness. So, her treatment may not take 2-2.5 years and treatment period could be lessened. :xedfingers:

Back then, I had also called 2 other private dentists for quotes, and the price range for ceramic braces were between $3,500 - $5,000. In the end, I settled for Dr Poon because it was: (i) priced mid-range amongst the 3 quotes, (ii) recommended by someone I know and (iii) convenience of location.

Although dd1 was on the queue with the School Dental Services, I decided not to go with them as the wait time was long and the timing to see the dentist was not very flexible.

Btw, payment for the orthodontic treatment is spread over the course of the treatment period. Like paying instalments. The first initial payment is a larger sum due to X-rays, assessment, taking the mould, etc. Subsequent visits are at a lower cost.

I have done it before, not a very pleasant experience (as with all dental-related procedure) but I was in such pain then that I would endure anything to end that. Not sure why you require it, as mine was because I had really bad toothache, so a case of no choice :sad:

Not only that, painful for my wallet too :yikes:

I have a cracked lower molar. I actually wanted extraction, but dentist said there will be a big gap and in future, other teeth will move towards the gap and all will be crooked. He said if I'm 60 or 70, then he'll recommend extraction. Hurts when drinking cold water, otherwise, it's bearable. But the crack is there, really scary. :scared:
