Hi Brenda10,

Any idea if the above is similar to http://www.victoria.com.sg/index.php/2010-12-15-08-11-20/68 ?
Not sure which to get, or should I get both?

Hi teh_oh,

They are different.

As per Champion’s dd teacher quoted, \"需要加入多些成语,俗语或歇后语,让你的文章看起来更有生气!\" which the 1st book can help in this area.

The book that you had mentioned would give us some idea on how to describe the different type of weather, different type of emotional, expression, appearance etc

I would think is good to have both books.

Just my 2 cents thought

Hi teh_oh,
I might be dropping at Popular this week - maybe I go browse thru this book and if I get it will share here with you my feel...

Hi Brenda,
Thanks for the explanation; appreciates much. Yes, I have the Victoria book that teh_oh mentioned and really useful for DD1 as she carries it (small and thin) with her to school :imcool:
Hi Champion,
Thanks. Wanted to go popular today to use my 20% voucher, but have to control myself from stepping out of the house as I need to look through child's paper to see which parts he is really weak in. Hope he is able to bring home all the papers today.

Hi teh_oh,
No problem - Yea, this week most of the results will be known :scared: :nailbite: 😓 ...I know that DD1's Science & Maths, she did not do well as she mentioned \"papers very difficult\"! 😢 Nevertheless, will encourage her and go thru those weak areas, like you mentioned, during the June school holidays.

Hi jedamum

We use it in the CL compo., CL compre open and end as well as use it during our daily conversation when able is suitable.

Some example extracted from the book:

惯用语 : 排长龙, 苦肉计
谚语 : 长痛不如短痛,恶人先告状
歇后语 : 赖蛤蟆想吃天鹅肉, 痴心妄想
俗语 : 不费吹灰之力, 不分青红皂白
四字语 : 不堪回首, 沉不住气

Hope the above is helpful.
thanks brenda10. very useful. 🙂

Dare not imagine next year when son is in P6.

I let go of the 听写 when dd was on P3 since the school would not take in 听写 as part of the CA1 or SA1 marks.

Perhaps you want to consider to get her some CL cartoon show with CL subtitle only during this period and June holiday as I believe it will help your dd improve on word recognizing, listening and communication skill. In the long run this helps her to improve in the CL language and can also lighten your burden.

Just my 2 cents thought.

I let go of son's 听写 and mo xie when he was in P4. Same goes for his school hw bcos he is answerable to his teachers if he does not get his work done.
This June hol, I will heed your advice and expose her to more CL but in an interesting way.

Hi Brenda10,
Thanks! Will add to my 'shopping cart' then. :D
Hi teh_oh,
Went to Popular ClementiMall this evening as was there for dinner with friend. At least this outlet is new, brighter and the assessment books are so neatly arranged :salute:

Ok, regarding the 1st book that I thought I will get 😉 ...but to my surprise, the size is very small - pocket size! Thickness okay lah  I was looking high and low the normal A4 size for it when I decided to approach the sales staff for :?: ...When she passed me the book, I was like,\"Errr....so small??\" Start flipping thru the pages then closed it..Repeat again and again for at least 5 times :skeptical: ...The wordings inside are too small; I have difficulties reading with my poor eyesight! ..So...after much \"struggling\", I put back the book and told myself,\"Maybe I should write to the publisher to request for a re-print into bigger size book with bigger fonts!\" :imcool: :imcool:

Brenda,
guess I will shelf this book till maybe next year if they have re-print or I will have to get myself a magnifying glass together with this original version 😓 .....

HI Champion,

I bought that book you mentioned. One of the Popular employees there told me it's actually meant for secondary school but if the child is advanced in his/her learning for CL, it's a good book to read.
She also showed me several books for 开头,结尾, 天气 etc etc. I think I definitely have enough those...but that one you recommended is interesting. I'm reading it :snuggles:

Hi Brenda,
I woke up at 1am with a panic attack. Son told me his Science has 72% and that is the highest mark. Although I don't know his class average, I am just worried how to bring up his overall. What level of assessment should I use to improve his Eng...P5 or P6. Fortunately, there is 1 1/2 years more b4 PSLE but I am at a loss :imdrowning: Can you kindly advise ? Thanks.

Hi Janet, :hi5:
Very much that I want to buy and read that book but hor the font really very tiny and the book very small that I don't have much interest reading it :siam:  ....

Guess age is catching up - I prefer A4 size books and those that fonts are bigger  ....The Ultimate Science Guide - I still can manage although some might feel it is the fonts not big enough and the \"greenish\" wordings 😉

Hi Brenda,

Initially I also think,\"Hey, maybe need not concentrate so much on the 听写 since marks not taken into the CAs or SAs  ....But besides 听写, the CL teacher made them write the 听写 & or 默写 words as 习字! Guess this is the way her CL teacher made them study for it! And before the SA1, they are supposed to write ALL the 生字 for Book 3A! 😓 She was grumbling and complaining and frowning but still manage to finish all and submit. :dancing:
Hi Champion

Same here. DD 听写 & or 默写 words are from 习字!

The 听写 & or 默写 list in P6 does incorporate those learnt during P5. The teacher also test them 1 -2 good sentences that not in the list. She will read it two times before you can write. As such they have to listen very carefully and this really helps to boost up their memory power lah.
