......7. Get sponsorship from drinks like Milo to make rounds to schools to give cold Milo or ice-cream vendors to provide mini ice-cream relief....mini \"sng pao\" is good........

and when some kids start coughing, the parents may blame the school or even the Minister of Education.

Tankee, when we were young, we also ate sng pao, drank cold milo and ate heaps of ice-cream but never fell sick(of course no air-con then too)...... so this problem is more than the school or MOE....it's basically the state of not-so-strong health the kids are these days.

Ah I think we should direct to MOH instead to go to the root of the problem!!
cold milo is ok mah. seen those sports adverts, milo is always their main sponsor. a healthy drink. during our sch sports day, cold milo is always welcome.

as for ice cream, also welcome cos its milk. the sch can always provide full cream ice cream like vanilla iso of those flavoured ones.

You people very hard to please. Now ask for ideas, you rant. Don't ask for ideas, you complain never listen to the people's views. :slapshead: :siam:

U said it!

verykiasu2010:

very simple, we pay them million upon million of dollars. they should come up with the proposal / ideas and discuss; if it is workable, we praise them. if not, take our feedback. if we were to come up with the idea, then we don't need them. 5 have retired and 2 have been voted out, amongst others. I paid my tax every year

look at it from another view point : the electorate has outsourced the problem solving to them
Why cant we take it as a compliment that maybe some of us may have an ingenious idea?

The common man is the one one with uncommon ideas

Look at Wiki and Microsoft Encrata. Who would have tot that wikipedia would be such a smashing success ?

The strength in todays world is the power to get out our collective creativity, wisdom and knowledge together to work better for us.

MOE of course should come up with the proposal. But if they are inviting us to join in to contribute ideas, then i welcome it and do not see it as a sign of incompetence on their part.

okay, collective creativity

lucky no need to repent for 5 years !

The onus is on the ministry to choose right ideas and implement.

If they fail to do that :nunchuk:
- yeah, we get to excercise collective wisdom 5 years later.

I agree it is an environmental issue indeed.
However, I learn to see that we cannot solve world issues, so we start with baby steps solving home issues first, hopefully along the way contribute to solving world issues.
Thanks for the :hugs: 😄

Some of your comments really crack me up!

I ‘Kee Chiu’ to the following:

1) Allow flexibility of wearing PE attires on hot days
2) Having more greenery around the school and within the premises, including classrooms. (Growing creepers also helps cut down wall temperature.)
3) Making 'sng bao', ice milos available on hot days (when temp. exceeds 30 degrees, for example), or providing free ‘liang teh’ during recess
4) Giving ‘water’ breaks –encourage more intake of fluid
5) Reducing class size
6) V-cool glass windows
6) Redesigning using environmentally friendly materials & structures (this should be new requirements for new schools/schools planning for upgrading and new HDB flats)

Apart from these, Funx3 mentioned about sleeping in class, which I think is interesting - 夏日炎炎真好眠 - cos sleeping does lower the body temperature.

Like the way we use day blinds at home to block out the heat from the windows, schools can consider installing day blinds for classrooms that may experience direct sun.(They prob. already have? I haven't noticed any in my son's school though) This should keep classroom temp. to below 30 degrees.

Students can take turns using wet cloth to wipe their own desk – 40 students means 40 desks, that’s a pretty big surface area for evaporation, maybe even pass the mop around so they can mop the floor around them (so they don’t end up perspiring even more). With air circulation from ceiling fan, the air should become cooler. Placing a basin of cold water near the fan might also help (but maybe not so practical if the kids tip it  )

Giving “Freshen up” time – kids can bring along a face/hand towel to have a rub-down bath (on face, neck and arms).

There is a method of mixing alcohol with water - 1:9 and spray the mixture into the air. Temperature is reduced due to evaporation, but the alcohol absorbs surrounding heat faster than water, hence helps to reduce temperature more rapidly – haven’t tried this method myself though.
