I am devastated to receive my gal’s results today. Other than Chinese in band 1, rest of the 3 subjects have dropped to low band 2 level. While i understand from our mummies that the P3 is a small transition, is the drop that drastic ?? I am So… stressed now. Please advise. :?: :imdrowning:

I was told that 85% is deemed band 1 for P1 and P2, and that point (i.e. 85%) drops at P3 or P4. Is that the case? Do you know?

No, at P3s, we are still looking at 70-84 range, same as P1 & P2s. At the rate she is going, soon to reach borderline passing rate ?? SIGH…

So Band 1 is >85marks, Band 2 is 70-84marks? I was discussing this with my colleague over lunch and she commented that at P3 (maybe she meant P4), criteria (qualifying mark) for Band 1 is lower. I have no idea as well.

I believe P1-P4/P5 follows this banding.

                Achievement Bands\tMark Range\tBrief Description\t
                Band 1\t85 - 100\tIs very good in the subject\t
                Band 2\t70 - 84\tIs good in the subject\t
                Band 3\t50 - 69\tHas adequate grasp of the subject\t
Band 4\tBelow 50\tHas not met minimum requirements for the subject

                PSLE
                follows this:

                Grade\tMark Range\tBrief Description\t
A*\t>91\tHas very good understanding of the subject\t
                A\t75 – 90\tHas good understanding of the subject\t
                B\t60 – 74\tHas good understanding of the subject\t
                C\t50 – 59\tHas adequate understanding of the subject\t
                D\t35 – 49\tHas fair understanding of the subject\t
                E\t20 – 34\tHas elementary understanding of the subject\t
U\t<20\tHas not met the requirements for the minimumgrade\t

                HMT table:
                Grade\tScores\t
                Distinction\t80 – 100\t
                Merit\t65 – 79\t
                Pass\t50 – 64\t
                Ungraded\t0 - 49

If we look at the remarks of the banding, actually Band 2 indicates a GOOD competency in the subject. In other words, the exams are deliberate set to be slightly difficult or tricky so that majority rightfully falls into Band 2 from P3 onwards....

My P3 this year also experienced a dip and this is generally the same for the majority in the cohort. I take it as normal.

True True, it is probably the expectation set forth since Primary 1 and now that she is in P3, we expects the same. Will have to see the papers to determine why of the score.
