I believe the dropping of WKS, RL, MBT, LKY & GCT from the new cabinet line up is a direct consequence of the GE 2011 result, not pre-meditated.

Going into the GE2011, these 5 together with GY and LHH were still hoping to be re-elected to hold office.

It is the post-mortem within PAP that at least for the time being conclude that these 5 must go.

Well, LHL has listened, and the rest of the team are now parroting they will listen more and consult more.....but we don't want to listen anymore. we want to see action now ..... :siam: :siam: 🦆 🦆

From what I've read, the three PAP ministers had asked to “leave” before the election, but PM only agreed to let them retire after it.

not disputing what you read. i oso read it. and that is a public statement.

everybody wants to save face to say that \"i am ready to step down anytime\"

if that is really the case, PM would have known before the GE how vulnerable PAP was going into the election.....but it seems they only \"wake up\" to it almost towards the end of the campaign, hence the apologies and the noticeable change in tone by the various ministers at the end of the campaign

I maintain my believe that the result of the GE plus the relentless torrent of social media feedback (some genuine, some astro-turfing) leaves PM Lee no choice but to wield the axe. else it would be like what LKY suggested sometime ago that PAP will lose the government in two generation

just my believe. nobody needs to agree with me. 😉 😉

I too, believe that such drastic cabinet changes could not have taken place without the PAP losing Aljunied GRC and a significant drop in % vote.

whether any minister(s) had planned to retire even before the votes were counted is up to them to say now.

However, after having made such drastic changes, I really hope our government will transform themselves and improve the lives of people, especially the lower and middle income families. This will surely save them from losing more seats in future. Personally, I welcome a little opposition in parliament, but not too many!

It is better they do their own house-cleaning and overhaul of the various positions. Now I have hope (pray!).

Looking at the new cabinet line-up already took a lot of fire out of me. Rather have a clean-slate and a full 5-years to work on the issues raised.
At least we won’t have to take drastic measures 5-years later to vote in at least 3 or 4 GRCs in order to force our own overhaul ie. putting in too many oppositions.

          My own wish-list:
          1. Peg HDB house price to average wage-earner (per couple) and loan to no more than max. 15 years for couple to clear.
          2. CPF withdrawal at a reasonable age and at a reasonable rate to fund retirement.
          3. Not giving us the feeling that the garmen is trying all ways and means to "eat" our CPF money or to fund the seemingly bottomless pit of reserves.
          4. Taxi fare cheaper, more reasonable so that people like me who don’t own a car feel justified at not having contributed to the crowding of the road. But at the same time not be forced to take MRT thereby further aggravating the crowding problem!
          5. Medical subsidy for private properties owners as well and not be forced out due to means-testing to justify the amount of taxes paid.
          6. Not having to see so many old folks doing cleaner jobs, at McDonalds, selling tissue papers etc. but that somehow the garmen will take more care of them. Seeing so many of such folks only reminds me of my potential fate in time to come!

Probably not, let's wait for 5 years.
If they do that, they will lose more \"votes\" the next round

Some of the old folk enjoys working at McDonald's.
They might not need the money but just to pass time and have some social interactions.

agree with Trapwithin. I personally know of an elderly who works as a cleaner even though his children provides with him enough monthly allowance. He said he’s too bored at home.

I cannot agree more to the power of social media and internet. We get to read and see something we never get to see or know. I am looking very forward to this year NDP because for the first time, we are seeing a few blues in the white cloud. 😄
