Agree. Although we didn't attend the talk but the campus and the student there really impressed us a lot. DD is so :love: with NYGH. That's why we spent 3 hours plus there.MrsSeah:
Agggrrrrr I have missed nanyang girl school open house for my dd. SAD...
I attended the NYGH open house and it was worth going. The programme was very well organised. There were talks in chinese as well as in english, school tour, performance and talk for GEP stds. I enjoyed the talks by the Principal. Most of the talks were conducted by the students (2 Sec1 girls, 2 Sec 2 girls, 2 Sec 4 girls(I think), 1 jc 2 (ex NYGH) and 1 ex HC graduate) and they talked about their experiences and ALL said that they encouraged potential students to enrol in NYGH. I was very impressed with the facilities when compared with other school. The talk given by the Principal was very informative and there was a Q and A session. :boogie: -

28/5 - Is easier as we had visited Cedar last year, VS is out (applicable for boy only) and we can have more time on DHS.

When you are considering an IP school, you must be confident of your kids ability to clear the A-level with good grades. A mediocre A-level cert is of little value, in fact is ranked lower than a poly diploma.
If unsure, opt for a dual track IP school. -

In reality, I was never all that much in favour of my kids doing A-levels bc I myself didn't enjoy the academic side of JC during my time (early 80s), and even not doing all that great in those days could get us into reasonably good courses. But despite my not-so-positive sharing, my eldest did fairly well in her O's and chose to do JC. I do think she will cope well based on her personality and ability. No.2 went with IP and is coping well, better than some of the high PSLE scorers even, and for once, he's receiving awards in school. Amazing.
So we really need to put the decision to our children. Bring them to see the school, let them have a feel of the culture.
Furthermore, IF the school selects them during DSA, certainly the school does see good potential in them. So far, I've noticed most of the DSA students, altho' their PSLE scores might be lower(not all, but some - maybe 50% of the DSA students), they cope very well academically. -

You will further be surprised in the number of students having to transfer to poly each year or having to study in private unis.
Phankao, i could simply pretend that the above does not exist and success in dsa implies the student's ability to perform well in A-level but in reality, the situation is not as encoraging as far as those whose t-scores are on the low side. -

We were guided by a P3 student to the block F (hopefully remember correctly) that the principal was holding a talk (in EL and CL language) at the Performing Arts Centre. We listened a while and carry on visiting the class room and also the musical center (hope this was the right name), science/maths learning lab, library etc
Finally, we went to the Indoor Sports Hall and Multi-purpose hall to see their CCA Exhibition. We bought 2 compos. books that published by their students at $3.00 each.
The students there are very well behave (温文尔雅), enthusiastic and approachable. DHS has given us a 亲切 and 温馨 feeling. :love: -

At the VS open house yesterday, a teacher was telling that this year IP intake will be about 90. I didn’t get the chance to clarify further, but just want to share this info. Seems like IP intake is small (so means that DSA success number will be smaller??). Hope I didn’t hear wrongly. -

Yes. Their open house is very impressive and the cultures there (like musical center and library are label with CL name etc) do make us feel 亲切. Heard the students will have chance to learn calligraphy too.
Wow! The IP intake at VS is really small and like that become difficult as the COP for IP intake will be up if more students are appling. As for DHS, if I did not hear wrongly, DHS intake of Secondary 1 student is around 400++. -

ya, 亲切 and 温馨 feeling was what precisely we had gotten when we visited DHS few yrs back :celebrate:
the attendence of the openhouse was the deciding factor for my gal.
oh....DHS does sell their students' compo bks to the public.....i din know that......
