Hi All,
My daughter is also in WG P1 (G) 2011.
She only gets bit of homework mostly english and maths. Mandarin I seldom see the homework.
Well she is ok mostly, but reacently realize bit careless in her test and all. Does not check her spelling, forget to complete 1 question etc…
The only complain that I have regarding WG teaching style is that: the teacher does not return the worksheets until the exams are near. Not enough time to find out the common mistakes done by DD and teach her to avoid them.
DD’s reading comprehension is the worse. She is bad both in English and Mandarin.
Really wondering how to make her improve the reading comprehension area which is very important.
Any parent can advise regarding this…
She will be having her Paper 2 from tomorrow… just hope is more careful this time… -
read more ya ...

Sigh… another issue with dd’s form teacher.
Last Fri, rec’d call from my mom to complain abt the teacher. I forgot to give dd allowance so she went to ask from her teacher. And her teacher told her that she herself has no money. Sigh… in the end, dd starved for the whole day cos she attended remedial class from 9am then normal sch till 6plus in the evening.
Dun understand why the teacher didnt help dd to find food since she herself dun have money also.
Not sure if it’s my dd’s luck to meet such teacher or what. Sigh -

. Sorry to hear this abut your girl and it is definitely not the right thing to do as a Teacher! :frustrated:
I suggest that you bring this matter to the attention of higher authority - best is to the VP or P. A child's well-being in school is the responsibility of the teachers. -
Hi Champion,
My mom is gg to see the P today and check it out. Yday dd said ano classmate also got no money to eat and teacher said sorry she got no money and ran out of biscuits too. Sigh -
Hi Giggler1
Sorry to know about what happened to your dd. I think I will bring this matter up to the teacher and see what is her response first, before I esclate. (I will not be happy about this too).
The parent teacher meeting this Thursday is a good chance for you to tell (grill) her on this.
Lastly, if you don't mind, can you share with us what is the P/VP response to this? As I will like to know how they handle incidents like this. Thanks

Hi giggler1,
I’m also interested to know the P/VP’s response.
And can you also PM me who is the teacher.
I need to be on a lookout for my kid for next year if we are successful in getting a place this July.
thanks. -
Hi
Can anyone share about the facilities and environment in West Grove Pri? -

How is her command of languages? If she is weak in this aspect then the main thing is to brush up on her vocabulary and build her interest in reading first. If she is ok with the language, then she probably need guidance on how to answer the questions. You will need to go through with her what kind of answer is required for the different type of questions (how, what, why etc). Also it will be useful to advise her to read the whole passage first (may have to read more than one time) to understand the gist of the passage before rushing to answer the questions. It will be useful for her to underline/bracket her answer on the passage first before answering them on the answer sheet.Hi All,

As for carelessness, repeat reminders to check her work (even when doing homework) as well as make her realise that she could actually get better grade (assuming she actually knows how to do the questions) if this carelessness is minimised.
Hope the above answered your queries. -

Hi JR, thanks for sharing. We actually don't mind do the gatekeeper duty...but meeting with the VP didn't left us very good impression. Really Glad to know from you that the school do placed the well being of the children as utmost important. If possible, would you like to share with me more about the school? for instance, how is the teachers' standard and what is the focus of the school? Wondering does the school provide higher chinese? Thanks...JR:
I have done my 40 hrs of PV in West Grove, helping out during recess time. Currently, I have signed up to be in the Parent Support Group and is helping out with the Buddy Reading Programme and some adhoc duties. From my experience with the school, I have found that the school has placed the well being of the children as utmost important.
In view of this, gate duty (as some might find rather mandane, judging from the post in this forum) whereby the PV helps to supervise the children as they wait for their parents to fetch them, is probably one of the duties that the school felt essential to ensure safety and order duing the school dismissal time. As a parent, I'm glad that there are gate keepers around as my child will not be left alone in case I am late in fetching him. Thus do not underestimate the duty of the gate keeper.
My take is that if you intend to do PV, you need to have an open mind and be committed to what you have signed up for. Remember it is voluntary, ie. you are doing it out of your own will for the benefit of others, without expecting any return. Of course, in this case, you are likely to get a placement for your kid in this school, as a tangible benefit of volunteering.
