zzz mr koh called the year ones sons of birds cos they apparently walked on the grass patch instead of the paved road. sometimes i really feel that the principal is going too far in terms of disciplinary issues (eg. Banning tying of buns cos looks \"sexy\" and like a \"pile of sh*t\", challenging everyone as if he's king etc). tbh over these few months i've lost some or even most of the respect of the principal.
I agree with the P on discipinary issues. Every P got to strict. The P is actually very concerned about the students' welfare, maybe his choice of words can be brunt. I think it's very good that he insists girls must pin up their fringe. When I watched the recent Chinese quiz show where different sch participated on tv, I was shocked to see the hairstyle of some girls. What bad image they present to the public! One girl from NYGH, had her long fringe covering part of her brow, and everytime she had to shake her head to 'move' the fringe, not very impressive gesture. -

i think augmum is referring to sec 3-4 combi.
But the new A level contrasting subject requirement has been around for sometimes. I understand we are saying that sec3-4 subject combination is tied to A level. Are the subject combi parents talking above refering to sec3-4 combi or A level's? I am not sure what is the situation at RV. Are there many students wanting to take triple A level science? And I am not familiar with new A level syllables, do you mean students taking triple scienc ein A level are not taking maths?
besides H1 GP & PW, A lvl students take 4 H2 or 3 H2 + 1 H1. since need a contrasting subject, a student taking triple science will not be able to take math. without math, this will limit their uni course selection. -

yes, i am referring to sec 3-4 subj combi.

as far as i'm concern, i still find it odd that it doesn't offer triple science. -

I think I get it. The 4 H2 level subject can be triple science and maths and then the H1 can be a humanity to satisfy the requirement? if what I understand above is a possible combimation that satisfy new A level requirement, then RV's move is quite unnecessary. Not many students choosing this combination isn't quite a good rationale. As long as there are 10, it is viable.

that's not really my point. I know the principal has to be strict but will the students obey him (out of respect not out of fear) if he doesn't choose his words carefully? Isn't the principal supposed to be the most respected person in the school?snowman.697:

think you didnt get me. besides GP and PW which are both H1 subjects, students will offer either 4 H2 subjects or 3 H2 + 1 H1 subjects. it is from these 4 subjects that requires a contrasting subject. so if a student offers triple science, then the 4th subject (whether H1 or H2) must be a humanities. hence the student cant choose math if doing triple science, unless i got the A level requirement wrong. anyone can verify?

as daisyt mentioned, rv students can still do triple sciences and double humanities. in fact, i believe there are some doing 9-10 subjects in year 3-4.

Is this a new A level requirement? I asked this bcos I know student who just received their A level result this year who have done 3H2 sciences (i.e Bio, Chem and Phys) and H2 maths (no contrasting humanities required)

yes. a contrasting subject is a requirement for the revised A level since 2006.

the combi you mentioned above is not possible as it has no contrasting subject.
