:celebrate:Finally, finally, finished reading the parent portion of the book and cut out all the character cards.
Started the method tonight with my DD, 6yos. I started from bk 1 although she's 6 yos for a few reasons:
1) To guage where's her level
2) To give her confidence in the language by starting with characters that she's familiar with. It's always easier to progress when she has the taste of success
3) To let me start with something easier and familiarised myself with the method
Finished lesson 1 with success. She even wanted to write the characters
Plan to finish book 1 within 2 wks.
Next in line will be DS2 and DD3 hee hee
加油! I'm still ploughing my way thru the parents' guide. You have motivated me to press on. -

I loved to read English fiction during my younger days. It helped with my compo and I did not have any English tuition. So I believe if I can get my kids to enjoy reading both English and Chinese fiction, they would be ok. -

my son who is 9, is very poor in his languages and he dislike reading
since it school holiday now, i reduce his assement books and increase his reading
i have to keep reminding him to read and read and read
he also have untidy handwritting, thus i am making him write 1 composition essay and 1 作文everyday
i do not know if there will be any improvement, but i guess it better than doing nothing
hopefully he will love to read with all my pushing
he is currently with Berries for 2 yrs, am also thinking of stopping it and ask him to do his reading at home. but i was rather hesitant, what if it turn out worse?
i am in a dilemma now

Ok, this is what I learned. To improve on language, not only must read but also must use. For example, the Chinese textbooks, there will be new words, the child must have opportunities to use, (speak it and write it) the new words and hear the new words being used. For example, you can pepper your conversations with the new words from the text books.thks to all of you for the infomations

If you want to take your son out of berries, then you must have other support inplace for him. For example, you set aside time for him to read aloud to you. -

yup, definitely i have to replace him with home revision if i am taking him out of berries
i just paid his school fee for the next term till sept
meantime i will provide both (berries and my own supervision) for him and monitor how his progress
btw, i just bought the 四五快读 from Mayu bookstore
i paid for the whole series (books of 7), cost ard $80plus
i just used book 1 yesterday with my 9 and 6 yrs old
its too easy for my P3 , but i tot i just go thru again with him together with my younger one
will start him on book 2 today
although its school holiday now, but i am still keeping a tight watch on them, esp my P3
he didnt do very well for his SA1 :idea:
and also i try to make it a routine to do reading to both of them every 15min everyday
i hope i can persist and enforced it consistently
i am a FTWM so timing is sometimes not on my side

Started book 1 with DS2 (3.8yo), for him approach is more fun and play. For him, will need to follow the repetitive approach suggested by the author.
