Travel: Malaysia - Johor

I have been planning to drop by Johore, I dont think I should drive but Im not familiar with busses and mrt. Are there any taxis that can bring me in safely to Johore and back?
-
Moonee, there are 2 main bus options:
1. Bus 170, which will take you to Larkin bus depot in JB. No need to book, just show up at the bus stop.
2. Any of the coaches that depart from Golden Mile or Lavender. These take you a number of destinations in Johor. Booking is a must, as they tend to be full when you last-minute.
Option 1 is quite a bit cheaper, about less than $10 I believe, but perhaps less comfy, as these buses are mostly standing room only and you tend to be cramped with lots of passengers.
Option 2 is more comfy, as the buses are larger and have decent seats. No standing is allowed. The ticket is up to $45 for a return to Mersing.
By the way, Lavender is also the location where you can get a cab to JB or further.
By all means let me know if you require additional information.

P.S. As a final note, the train service to Malaysia will cease from next month. If you’d like to take the train for nostalgic reasons, I suggest you book promptly, as the last tickets are moving like hot cakes. -

Thanks Bryan Norman , u are very informative and helpful. I actually prefer taking a cab straight in to johore, dont need to go too far. i do drive but am not gonna risk itas its unsafe. i understand dental is cheaper there too and may want to visit a dentist and also do some shoping, wondr if u know whether there are any dental clinics in the shopping area or are they on the streets.Moonee, there are 2 main bus options:

Are the malaysian cab drivers ok , I mean helpful ?Do u know their charges ? Thnks again -
Yes, most medical procedures will be cheaper in Malaysia. But I believe the flip-side is that perhaps Malaysian industry watchdogs may not be as on the ball as they are in Singapore. In other words, I would only trust a dentist if he/she comes with solid references.
As for the cabs, they're notoriously unreliable in Malaysia. To the extent that even Malaysians are up in arms. The cabs you take from Singapore are better though; just make sure you come to an agreed-upon sum before departing and make sure you're in agreement about the currency, so the driver doesn't change from S$ to US$ after you arrive.
I don't know about the exact cost, but I'd be surprised if the amount exceeds S$ 30,- for a one-way.
Let us know how you got on?
Cheers.

Tks for the info Bryan, youre really of great help, I guess the doctors are the same too, Yup, I now get a better picture of what to expect unlike years back when it was less unsafe but still had to be on guard. I hv been popping in to Hong kong and its very safe. I will be going there next week so I will put off johore for now but will definitely make a short trip there this year but dont have any plans yet… I do miss Johore but need more info on how the situation is today. Thot of going in for cheap buys and medicine too and jb is just a short distance away.
I will keep in touch with u if I intend to go in alone, anyway really appreciate yr sharing with me… will surely need more info when I decide to go in. Thanks again. -
No worries at all Moonee, just let me know if you have any other questions.
Meanwhile, we'll be in Johor this weekend
Cheers. -
will do Bryan, anyway i just got back frm HK so will not visit Johore now but definitely within the year. Cheers

Dear all
There is a Popluar Mega Bookfair 18-28 Nov 2011 at Danga City Mall. Does anyone know how to go there by taking public bus from JB City Square? If taking the taxi , how much will be the fare? It also can take train to Danga City Mall but does not have much of information eg timing, price etc
Is there anyone can share information with me
Thanks in advance -
Hello,
have not been driving to Malaysia for some time. Wish to check if we can still pay by cash (instead of Touch n Go) for the woodlands Malaysia checkpoint and the road tolls.
thanks

The hotels in Sentosa are way to expensive, almost $1K for 3A1C. My boy simply loves to stay in a hotel. Any nice hotel/resort in JB? I am thinking of driving in, check in to a nice hotel and spend the time lazing around, swimming, eat, shop etc. Any good recommendations?
