after news about the bai kar lone ranger escaping through a jamban window in broad daylight, 2 FT vandalising our MRT trains at the depot and the latest water tank incidents, shouldnt we be seriously worried about the security lapses and accountability if we ever build a nuclear reactor here??

yesterday wanbao published a photo of a rabbit born without ears which was found about 30km from Fukushima reactor. There was speculation that this was due to the radiation effects... :yikes:

remember abt the vietnam war back in the 70s, becos of the orange agent ( harmful chemical gas) those pregnant will either hv still born babies or babies deficiency, that is, blind, no legs, no hands, no backside, etc…

Looking at the trend and seeing how modernisation will one day \"harm\" us in more ways, I think I better start planning to retire to some places whereby I can still not be affected by food scare, radiation and drastic climate changes (tsunami, tornadoes, flood, drought......). Now, where can that be :scratchhead: ? Tibet? Nepal?
Pen, there's no where to go. everyone/everywhere is affected one way or another... if no natural disasters, singapore still the safest cos we have various mountains, islands & seas protecting us.

If modernisation is going to bring about all these need for nuclear power in Singapore, I would rather forsake \"modernisation\" and move to greener and \"healthier\" places. Not that I need to live a very long life, I just don't want a horrid death, or face horrid death of others. -

The closing down of nuclear plants in Germany is purely political due to Green party. USA, China, Russia have gave green light to go ahead with nuclear because it is the ONLY way to go. Germany will suffer from this decision. They will have to rely on power supply from France, Russia and other part of Europe and this will be detrimental to their status as the modern industrialised state. at the moment, no where in Europe was anything as productive as Germany. After this, the ONLY bright spot will die down.....
Actually, Fuku disaster is nothing to worry, surely not as bad as the media has played it up. One fact which they missed reporting was that this Fuku nuclear plant that ran into problem was so old, nearly 40 years, and the design was so out of date that it was a wrong decision on their part to continue extrending its service. Modern nuclear plants are safe in that they are built to resist major shock from earthquake and they designed with many safe-control that will guarantee auto shut down in case of emergency. Is the fuku power plant of this design. Surely, it is not.
Think calmly about it. Even for fuku disaster, how many people actually died because of it? Less than 10. Do you know how many thousands of people died in road accident alone in America every year? I read that it is 20000. But people never stop travelling on road because of that. Do we stop using electrical power just because of a disaster of epic magnitude that cause a nuclear power plant problem in Japan? Bear in mind, it was the largest earthquake which create the largest Tsunami in history that JUST able to cause this one OLD, outmoded nuclear plant some problem. With nuclear plants of modern design, I am sure such a probelm will not even arise.
I am sure the scientists have alreay exhausted all means of energy that can continue our civilisation into the future. Wind power can only provide 10% of the energy and wind power isn't free too. It require rare earth elements to make its motor and we also running out of rare earth elements. Coal power actually cause high pollution in the atmosphere and everybody will sure sink into the sea if green house effect become even worse or more people may get strage lung diseases. Oil is out of the question as peak oil has already reached. Moreover, it wouldn't be wise to rely on a region that is set to be politically unstable. You see, we don't have other choice but nuclear energy unless we are happy to go back to stone age. It is not about being greener etc...without electricity, we won't exist. -

I am not sure you have a choice. What if Malaysia want to built a few? Don't dream of running away. Even Taiwan concur that there will be nowhere to escape if something happen to one of their 3 nuclear plants. Even countries of the size of Taiwan have nowhere big enough to escape. I am not sure, is it just lower growth that we have to face or survival?
