Ya, bad timing! Aiya, I was just fulfilling the promise I made to P3/4 parents after SA1 to put up the questions ...for all you know, most parents may find them 'wet-wet-water' lah, like Lizhi 😉 ... they will heave a sign of relief instead :laugh:
But lizhi is different class. Her P3 dd is doing P5 maths oredi. :faint:

And her dd1 & dd2 are in HCI & NYGS.

Hrm lizhi, when is your tuition ctr opening? I book first hor. :lol:

For all of ds’s flaws (of which there are quite a few), I’m beginning to see that he is maturing into a fine young man thru PH’s help. You know what they say about ACS ability in grooming boys into men. For ds’s case, I see the same in PH’s CVE too.

I’m reading ds classics daily. In those days, the writings are not always politically correct. For instance, some books tend to associate ugliness with evil, and beauty with purity of heart. Just now while reading, ds abruptly interrupted me and said, ‘Even if someone is ugly, we must also love her because God loves everyone.’ There’re many such examples in the past 6 mths in which he revealed his train of thought to me. Can tell that he’s heavily influenced by CVE.

Needless to say, I was so, so happy to hear that. It saves me so much time and effort to teach him this value thingy, something which admittedly, I’m not fantastic at.

Just when we were consoling ourselves not to be scared by PH's std and then you post this. :yikes:

What was the mean score for P5 SA1 maths again? :nailbite:

Hiyah, I got the answers wrong leh.. Cham.. must go study more.. good thing I have a few years more before ds reaches p5.. I hope they don't speed up the maths by then.. I think it's harder to teach such questions without using blatant algebra.. cos the concept has to be carefully digested and thought through. But I must say that kids wo can attempt these questions show good thinking skills.. (which obviously I don't have.. :oops: )

a.\tBBBBBBB + GGGG -> 975
b.\tBB-G -> 150,
BB BB BB BB – GGGG -> 150X4 =600
a + b, \tB……B (15units) -> 975+600=1575
B -> 1575/15=105
……
240 girls attended the sports day at first.

To me, this is like a Algebra.

Actually our children are introduced to simple versions of algebra since P1. Remember the pictorial qns with weighing scale (P1) and P2 section B IQ qns?
Do you mean questions with 'units'? can you share which kind of questions, so this mommy can go further analyze? Thank you!! :please:

Algebra very pathetic chapter at P6 (first chap)...took a glimpse of the textbook when I was at Popular...like what Jennifer mentioned, it's totally incapable of solving any problem. Son was taught Models to handle Maths problems.

Students in school are not equipped with sufficient methods of handling prob sums although they are given marks for diff steps (M1, M2 thing) :?
So, that's why private tutors are needed.

That means the Algebra can be used from P5 onwards as soon as the kids know how to use and give correct answer.

Depends on the T. My elder boy's M1 T does not encourage Algebra.
At P4, son's teacher didn't encourage the use of algebra...but this year, teacher said can use any method as long as the kid is comfortable. P4 teacher said better stick to models.

I agreed.
Actually I hope my answers will cast a brick to attract jade. 😉
Try to find better ways to let children easy to understand.....whether the method is algebra or not, as long as the kid is comfortable.
