At least she gives you an answer early so that you can focus on searching for a new maid now.

true. hope she can settle her personal things including her husband missing(never go home) for 1 year liao.. all their hubby useless.. eat soft rice (chi luan fan). i tell her when she go home dun tell anybody only her mum else her hubby will surely come back, maybe even pick her up from airport.. then ask for money.. ha.

hquek, yes it is true that it doesn’t matter if the maid has paid up the loan but it won’t benefit the employer because technically the employer is still servicing the loan with the agency. If the maid leaves now, employer still need to continue the loan if you did not inform the agency. If the loan is not finished, best to inform agency so that agency can give you free replacement and refund you back whatever is outstanding or just put the outstanding loan on new maid. This was what happen to my myanmar maid. The maid agency refund me all the outstanding and I went to another maid agency. It is then up to maid agency to decide what they want to do with the maid.

Btw, just for everyone’s information if you want to buy myanmar air-tickets, go to Peninsula Plaza. There are a few travel agencies there. Go to the 3rd level travel agency, more attractive rates. air-ticket would cost about $250, depending on season sometimes can go up to $410. If you ask maid agency to buy for you, they will quote you $350.

            Thanks for the tips peapot.

Any ideas about remitting money back to Myanmar? My maid would like to send some (in time for planting season) but then I’m not sure how they actually do it.

hquek, you can go to Peninsula Plaza as well. They remit money back for Myanmar people. I used to go to this shop on 2nd level call sin-MYANMAR Travel #03-57. Besides issuing air-tickets, they also provide remittance service. Te:63380677

Now that I don’t have anymore myanmar maids, best to call them and find out more details.

                  Hi,

Can I ask abt the maid’s reaction when you ask her to sign the house rules? I have prepared a list of house rules (with reference from Tamarind’s blog) and my colleague and hb gave me the "roll eye" face. But after reading this forum, I do know that it is necessary as it sets the expectation.

My hb even ask me…"you think she know wat u writing"? argghh…

my way of doing is to read out to her on the house rules and she write in her notebook in indonesian/malay.. it's better than ask her sign cos she may not understand if it's not malay ? i did this on the first week she come. will do the same for next maid.

Brings to mind the pointlessness of that english entrance exam. My maid passed hers at one go; but she can’t speak to save her life, nor could she understand much of what she say.

Amazingly, she can read well, but dunno why oral she cannot understand.
