      Thanks for the tips peapot.

Any ideas about remitting money back to Myanmar? My maid would like to send some (in time for planting season) but then I’m not sure how they actually do it.

hquek, you can go to Peninsula Plaza as well. They remit money back for Myanmar people. I used to go to this shop on 2nd level call sin-MYANMAR Travel #03-57. Besides issuing air-tickets, they also provide remittance service. Te:63380677

Now that I don’t have anymore myanmar maids, best to call them and find out more details.

            Hi,

Can I ask abt the maid’s reaction when you ask her to sign the house rules? I have prepared a list of house rules (with reference from Tamarind’s blog) and my colleague and hb gave me the "roll eye" face. But after reading this forum, I do know that it is necessary as it sets the expectation.

My hb even ask me…"you think she know wat u writing"? argghh…

my way of doing is to read out to her on the house rules and she write in her notebook in indonesian/malay.. it's better than ask her sign cos she may not understand if it's not malay ? i did this on the first week she come. will do the same for next maid.

Brings to mind the pointlessness of that english entrance exam. My maid passed hers at one go; but she can’t speak to save her life, nor could she understand much of what she say.

Amazingly, she can read well, but dunno why oral she cannot understand.

oh yeah.. i think u speak in english and may need a lot of hand gesture to show her what u mean then she ownself write in her own langauge/words.. so long she gets what u r trying to say.

when u ask this question, i now then realise, all my maids started first day, by sweeping floor.. haa.. i just tell them to put their things in their room, change then, show them where is the toilet, then i will tell them to sweep floor first while i slowly tell them what to do next, usually, next thing is mop floor. u'll be SURPRISE, some dunno how to sweep/mop..sweep usually is ok.but mopping depends on what type of mop u r using, u need to teach them and if use stick must tell them careful dun knock on furniture, use cloth to mop underneath furniture kinda thing.. then teach her manners, must call ma'am, sir , say morning blah..
