      A friend’s case is such:

Her P5 kid has been complained by teachers as no discipline since P1,… can’t sit still, rude to teachers,… till recently he fighted with his teacher. The P referred him to see psychologist and after that they stopped him from attending school. No medication is needed so far. The child keep insisting that the teacher need to apologise to him and refuse to stop school. Is it correct for them to stop him from attending school. It has been two months and he has been fine at home with the help of his little sister to submit homework for him but My friend is afriad that this may affect his PSLE preparation if continue. Should my friend ask for transfer him to another school and what is their chance of success? Or should my friend co-operate and wait till the current school is willing to take her child back?

Can the school suspend the child for such a long time? Two months is a long time. If the school doesn’t agree to have the child back in the school, your friend should seek help fro MOE.

They seek help to write a letter to MOE… no outcome yet. Some kids felt treaten by him and complaint to parents followed-up by parents complained to school, so they stopped him from school. So far the doctors do not want to certify him to go back yet. He was said to have mild Autisim. Dunno how the letter to MOE help. What make it worst is the parents are not able to communicate well to the Malay P and FT as they only speak Mandarin and find themselve even helpless in working with the P. P suggest home school the kid but both my friend and hubby only have pr education. how to home school?

Maybe your fren can try to find another school which is more accepting to the kid’s condition. Alternatively, she should contact the P and MOE to seek for a solution (other than home-school) for the kid. Since MOE has made primary education as compulsory, they have the duty to help the kid find a suitable school. If no reply, seek help from MP.

2 months not going school is a long time. In cases like this, the parents need to be proactive and seek all avenues to address the issue. The P is obviously adopting a "wait and see" approach, hoping the parents will simply move kid out of the school so she has 1 less headache.

If all else fail, try to write to minister of education. Must strike whilst iron is hot, rather than leave issue to drag on.

                  New Age Parent:
My daughter in p1 this year and doesn't seem to be getting along with her classmates.

Should I change school? What is the process? We tried so hard to get her into this school.... 😞
Does your gal have this issue at kindergarten? Have you spoken to her to find out why? Have you spoken to her form teacher and sought advice on how to improve the situation?

Usually kids at lower primary are quite accepting to their classmates and not so judgemental yet. To blend into the group with a little help (from teacher or friend, or advice from parents etc. ) should not be too difficult.

I do not think changing school is a good solution. Take it as an experience for your gal to learn how to mingle and get along with others may be more beneficial to her in the long term.

yes, two months seem so so long and torturing especially to my fren. All avernue suggested has been done and now till waiting cos doctor must certify him well first. But when I saw the child few days back he looks normal wah... can talk to, can watch tv can play comp... Seeing my fren :imdrowning: only feel like 😢 and helpless at this stage.

You mean the P5 boy fought with his teacher and after that keep insisting that the teacher need to apologise to him? That's quite shocking and I won't blame the school for suspending him, especially when other pupils are also feeling threatened by his behavior. I may be wrong but it didn't seem that an autuistic child will insist that the teacher need to apologise to him.

I hope I don't offend you or your friend, but I think the school is being kind in not suspending him or making a police report. I think the parents should get their priority right and correcting his behavior should take precedence over PSLE preparation. If he continues this way, he will most definitely get into serious trouble in the not too distant future. He definitely need help in managing his anger and controlling his violent behavior. It won't be long before he reach his teens and by then, it'll be even more difficult to help him.

Until he change his tendencies of fighting or being rude to the teachers, it's going to be difficult for MOE or any school to help. Teachers and the other pupils have a right not to live in fear of him beating them up, or threatening them. If he is unable to show any modicum of respect for his teachers, he won't be able to learn from them.
