        Hi,

The Chinese teacher highly recommend Story Island. It’s at Taman Jurong. I went to take a look, they teach n introduce Chinese thru stories. No drilling of homework, guess their aim is to cultivate love for the language. Once u like the language, learning of it will come easier. My girl likes it, but I m still thinking if this is a good approach to learning Chinese.

Always21, can share your child’s experience at Jiang?

Jiang has a lot of homework but the Lesson is pretty fun. I think the child has to be vocal to enjoy the class. Each class has about 12 pupil. Therefore if too quiet might lose out

It is strange that the teachers should be encouraging tuition instead of helping the kids themselves. I remember when DD was in P4 and did quite badly for her English Compo, I suggested to the English teacher that I should send her for writing classes. The teacher offered to give her extra lessons after class to help her in her essays. I think the teachers these days just conveniently push their responsibilities to tutors and that is why our kids are so stressed from excessive tuition.

Yellowbelt, which level is your DD in?

              Hi

My boy is currently a P1 student in Nan Hua and also the after school care in NASCANS. Can i know if any parent registered their child for the tuition programme with NASCANS? Just wondering if their tutor is good as I am thinking if I should enrol my child for the English and Maths Tuition with NASCANS.

hi thumbelina, my boy will be going to NH nxt yr. appreciate if you can share on the after sch care there. went down today and spoke to Ms Kang. understand that the kids dun get to shower. how does ur boy feel? Hi ilynn

Yes, the kids dun get to shower. After school, the kids go to toilet and change into their NASCANS T-shirt. I think it’s all right. Initally, I gave my boy a small towel that he can use to wet it and wipe himself if he is uncomfortable. But he didn’t use the towel at all and he said he don’t feel uncomfortable.

The kids get to nap after their lunch. My boy bring a sleeping bag to school on every Monday and use the sleeping bag for his nap. The sleeping bag will be kept with NASCANS throughout the week and he will bring home the sleeping bag on every Friday.

NASCANS teachers will also look through their pupils’ diary to see if the kids have any homework to do. In addition, the NASCANS teachers also practice the weekly spelling with the kids.

My boy is a little picky about food but he will still eat the food for lunch and tea-break. In addition, we also prepare bread for him in a lunchbox just in case he is hungry as his metabolism is quite high.

                  Hope this helps
