      Hi all,

      1. Is electricity a matter ?
      2. Is wind a matter ?

Some website says electricity is a matter. Some says it is not a matter in everyday sense. So, if the paper asks this question, how to answer ?

      Many Thanks !!

        Hi

When water is heated to 100 degrees C, it boils.

During boiling, water changes from a liquid to a hot gas called steam which is invisible.

The white clouds or mist are actually tiny water droplets floating in the air. These are formed when steam loses heat to the surrounding air and changes back into water as it cools. The change of state of steam from gas to a liquid is called condensation.

I’d go for steam and water droplets

        Best wishes
        :thankyou:

          Hi Emelyn,
In our syllabus, matter has mass and occupies space. Electricity is a form of energy and not matter, as it does not occupy space and does not have mass.

          Hope it helps!

Spore cases containing spores are found on the underside of fern leaves.

If it is mcq, I will pick spores over spore cases.

            Hi atutor2001,
Thanks. Are there such things as spore bags?
My child wrote in his school science exercise book that spores are contained in spore bags. In his textbook, it wrote spores in breadmould are in spore cases. In an MCQ question where there is an option of spore bags and spore cases, the choice of spore cases is correct. I read one guide book, while it wrote that breadmould spores are contained in spore cases, there is a small picture and at the annotation under the gills of fungus, it state spore bags.
            I'm confused.

            Hi teh_oh,
I was packing DD1's cabinet and found the Science Companion by Renee Chong that has been \"cold storage\" for a long time  ....Flick over the pages and saw the following:- http://i52.tinypic.com/2ugyt5g.jpg\">

So the term \"spore bags\" correct or not? Very Confused yah?? :?

              Hi Champion

Thank you for making a copy of the assessment book.

Out of curiosity, I googled for spore bags and there is only 1 site that called spore cases as spore bags - interestingly it is a local site.

In fact, many sites used the term "spore bags" to describe special man-made bag used for growing mushroom.

From the web-dictionary, the definition of "spore cases" is given as sporangium which is defined as

"A single-celled or many-celled structure in which spores are produced, as in fungi, algae, mosses, and ferns. Also called spore case."

So I really wonder if the term spore bag is correct.

              Cheers

                Hi atutor2001,
Thanks for the explanation; appreciates much :celebrate:

Yes, indeed - I was surprised when I saw this term in this forum and later on found in this assessment book  ....so for the time being, I am continuing to \"cold storage\" this book until further notice! :rotflmao:

                  Hello All,
Need the trouble you all again :hi5:

The above question is taken from Longman My Weekly Companion Science Book A.

                  Q3a, \" Why did the bettle die?\"

DD1 argued that the answer given at the back of the answer sheet is wrong! :scratchhead: :? She \"challenged\" me :scared: - took out the Science Exam Booster Notes and showed me on the page under \"Characteristics of living things\" - Living things can stay alive for about 3 weeks without food.

                  Errrr........ :?: :?:

The beetle happens to have been starving for 2 weeks prior to the start of the experiment. :rotflmao:

                      Hi…

Both the answer key n your daughter is right…

We must help our children to understand certain differences between test/exam qns compared with facts given in science guide…

The test qns is testing the child knowledge of the characteristic of living things. Hence we must answer according. In fact…eventually the beetle will still die to lack of food.

One thing, we can learn from here, is the time factor involve in the qns…if the qns does not give a time limit…like eg. Within a day…or a few day…or a few hours later…then we can give the answer as the beetle would die. But otherwise, we must answer it as…the beetle will still live because living thing can survive for awhile without food.

                        Hi Concerndad,
Thanks so much for your analysis; appreciates much :thankyou:

But looking back to the question, the statement before it, \"After one week, he noticed that the beetle had died.\" This was the tricky part that my DD1 \"challenged\" me :scared:
