how much did you pay for it, its is good? i was thinking of buying one too, but my frd said it may consume alot of electricity.
any feedback on this??

You can consider some good electronic gadgets to help you out.

I got an Osim steam vacuum to steam mop the floor once/twice a week and an irobot Rhoomba to automatically vacuum my floor everyday. Washing is solved by washing machine and a dryer. All these help a great deal.

I'm looking into getting an irobot scooba to wash my kitchen floor 'cos I do cook everyday. It's something worth considering.

Can get a dish washer and a good iron to ease the ironing part too.

My in-laws also don't share our idea about not having a maid. They think we are crazy 'cos they can't live without one.

The dryer consumes quite a bit of electricity so when you are buying one, make sure it’s got as many of those energy saving approval ticks as possible.

The Rhoomba works on a rechargable battery and if you use it often, you really don’t have to let it run its full cycle and you floor is really clean. You will be amaze how much dust, dirt and hair it picks up even with daily use.

(I use it daily so I just put it on for 5-10 mins per bedroom. Since I don’t use the Rhoomba for such a long time at each go, the recharging time is also much shorter. After that you can turn it off.)

Scooba on my kitchen ceramic floor is good. Haven’t tried it out on the parquet and marble.


Rhoomba - highly recommended after 1 month of daily testing. Really keeps the floor clean.

My FDW just left us for good 2 weeks ago. So now I am the offical maid at home doing all the cleaning and washing plus having a part-time work. We had employed FDW for the past 5 years already so I was a bit of not used to not having her around at the start. Now I must say I am quite happy without one (except at time I need to juggle between my work and housework). Though I have to do all the cleaning, I find it quite satisfactory to see the house cleaned. Also without FDW around, we are free from the issues and inconvinient we had when she was around. May be this is the chance for my family to stop relying on FDW.

I have no maid for 6 years since I stopped working. I have no issue with cooking and washing but I really don’t know how to make my windows really clean. Anybody can suggest what to use for cleaning windows ?

Hi everyone,

i do have a maid now, but i am always prepared that i will go without one one day. i just want to be mentally prepared the day that my maid leave. she has been with us for coming 2 yrs and i just renewed her contract in Mar 2011, thus her next contract will end in Mar 2013.
i have no idea if she wants to continue with us or to leave Singapore for a better and higher paying job.
she is a smart and good worker, i believe she can do more than just being a maid.
i am not worried that my houseworks will have no one to do after she left as i think i am capable of doing all these (i am maidless for 1 yr before she came)but more worried abt who to take care of my kids if she were to leave in 2013, my children are still young, they will be in P5 and P2 then. so i doubt they are old enough to be home-alone yet. their school is also very far from my house, so they need school bus or my DH to fetch them after work. their school offer after-school care thou.
my MIL has already implied she is not keen to help me, both my parents are working. i have to either send them to student care or look for other care-giver.
i just want to know how the parents here with young kids and how you manage without maid. who take care of ur kids?how u manage your life with work, family, housework, kids homework.etc…
to be honest, i have no intention of looking for a new maid after my old one leave.
hope to get some advise and encouragement here.
