How to wash vegetables clean yet retain their nutrients
-
The term organic is used loosely in many markets. But to be really sure of whether the product is organic, there must be some kind of label. By not adding pesticide doesn't mean the product is organic, it just means the vegs is pesticide free.
Other than pesticide-free, the product must be grown in an open land, dunno how many km (cant remember off hand) away from the heavy industry and no aeroplane can fly by the open land. Of course cannot use hormone to grow also. And also, they must adhere to the child labour law.
I think those that are sold in normal supermarkets are not organic, some of them are not even pesticide free. Some uses water hydroponic method to grow and they claimed they are organic.
That's why I dun buy 'organic vegs' from ntuc.

Speaking of organic, have any of you watched Food, Inc? It's really an eye opener for me. :yikes:

Happy Mama:
Ya, agree, especially brussel sprouts. I once found worms in them. Eewww!!!
Vege with worms is a good sign... means there is no/little pesticide..
so I don't mind buying leafy vege with some holes in them, just pluck out those with holes before soaking.. -
smurf:
I also just wash it with tap water leh, dun use anything else. If got worms, that means the veg is very fresh and not much pesticide mah, if got a lot of pesticide, you wouldn't find worms, coz nature know best! Haha...

:hi5: just saw your post -
Hi RRMummy!
You give me an idea! Thank you all! -
