      they should strive to be in the Top 20, not just the platinum

      Hi Parents here, do you think the chances of DSA using SMOPs Bronze stand a slight chance , if any at all ? Doubtful ? Try-able ?

      each year the number of platinum is about 60+ to 70+ (so I said aim for the top 20)

      typically each year has about 3,000 trying the smops

      2% = 60+ for the platinum
      next 3% = 100+ for gold
      so at least 150 to 170 for platinum and gold combined

      another 5% = 150 for silver

      and the next 10% = 300 plus for bronze

      so bronze as a basis for DSA is very challenging[/quote]thanks verykiasu2010 for the advise too. The analysis of the different achievers category makes it straight forward where does bronze holders stand. Shared with son be practical, no harm trying if he still wants it, otherwise base on his own merits to gain entry is what this mummy even more proud of. 🙂

        SMOPS 2011
        Platinum = 75
        Gold = 118
        Silver = 187
        Bronze = 406

          Bronze = 406

          Thanks for the info

          platinum + gold = 75+118=193
          silver =187

          so there you are, top 5% plus next 5% ..... the numbers cannot be exactly the same as some getting the same scores will be ranked the same, probably a string of candidates getting the last qualifying marks for gold and silver

          bronze being 10% = 406 is about the total of platinum + gold + silver.....= 380, possible that the last 26 bronze are all same marks

              Hi parents,

              My son is in Sec 3. During this June holidays, I wonder if your Sec 3 boys have been doing any Ace projects? I asked my son to make use of the school holidays to do his Term 3 Ace. But he said he can only start when school reopens as he is not in a position to do so now.

              Can someone clarify the position. I have a sneaky feeling he is just brushing me off so he can play his computer games this hols…but I am worried once school starts, he will be too busy with school work, tests, cca etc.

                Another question, does school reopen on 25 June for High School Section?

                Also, is 4 July a school holiday since 3 July is Youth Day?

                    Hi Mum42, what cca is that? With more and more material and homework on the computer/internet, it is really difficult to know whether they are doing homework or not.

                      Hi Otah,

                      DS is in air pistol. Ya, since this term all HW n Ace projects are done on the computer. I have not seen any paper works this term.When his classmates came over to do projects, all of them were working on their own computer :scratchhead: .
                      DS live,eat n sleep n:imconstipated: with the computer these days. His facebook is on almost 24Hrs :mad: When ask, he will give excuses like asking classmates abt HW or checking for something :frustrated:

                        Well at end of the term, if his result is still good, then he can still handle lah, so don't worry so much. Must take good care of ourselve also.. :lol:
                        Was told nowadays the new generations are like that, good at \"multi-tasking\". Not all kids have strong self-control when they are with peers ... But I think \"future school \"should be of small amount only, most things should be done in the traditional ways. 😄
