      Hi Mum113/CWC,
Thanks for valuable tips. Will try out the \"Blanko-ing job\" with son.
What I did was to attempt to do some of the passages in his assessment book myself, in front of him. Then let him do the marking. He sure enjoyed doing so !!!
Then I asked him to refer to the answers and fill in those I got wrong.
We went through together and I explained why some answers are such that 'it has to be that one' and nothing else...for eg phrasal verbs.
wow Janet, you sure are creative in your way of teaching, if ever mine knows so n so mummy does this with her son (better don let mine see this), surely will feel jealous ๐Ÿ˜„
Let's hope our little efforts in whatever ways turns fruitful for our dk (dear kidz) ๐Ÿ™‚

To entice him to get more cloze passages done, I have to think of diff methods. Actually, I'm not that creative...it was a friend who recommended this. I was resistant initially, but when I sat down to do it, it was quite interesting, to put myself in his shoes and figure out the answers. Some passages are really not easy, esp those on history like pyramids.

            Thanks for sharing cwc ๐Ÿ˜‰

We did a couple of ST articles together, and your suggestion is actually good. To discuss after the readings, not only keeps their train thoughts moving but mine as well , otherwise may get too dusty.

Someone advised me to try the \"Blanko-ing job' with son...but I'm lazy to do so. So decided to use the passages in cloze assessment instead. In doing so, my weakness may make me lose face but so far :xedfingers: , I'm doing ok...whew !! I will still command respect as his mummy  ...hahaha

IMO, the 'blanko' is the easiest part compared to the mind-map, summary & tell. To me, the real value is per what Mum1113 mentioned, keeping their train thoughts and ours active.
Some kids, read a lot but able to learn new stuff, link and analyse what they read....and these are the really good ones.
Some kids, read a lot but dun seem to absorb much ๐Ÿคท Unfortunately, my kids (me too) belong to the later.....read majiam din read. Guess some kids are just wired to be better while others need guidance (that's why if one can find a good mentor, always helps). So this is where I hope I can help ie. teach them how to 'fish/small-shrimp'.......
Will definitely still make use of some cloze assessments to supplement ๐Ÿ˜„ just in case.

thanks sista cwc....anyweas to continue to uphold our due command of respect from our dk (dear kidz), we mummies always have the upper hand, isnt' it.....read through the answers first and chuck one side, so when come to challenging ones, even mummy has no problem in answering and dk will never get to comment \"aiyo, mummy u also dont know ...\" kekeke..

If I am hardworking enough next week (when school reopens), I will try the โ€˜blankoโ€™ methodโ€ฆesp since sonโ€™s school has habit of extracting passages from Straits Times and Readers Digest.

Thanks cwc. Oh yes, you have a boy in P5 this year too.
