i'm worried over the licensing issues. i'm quite sure as a teacher, i'll be able to come up with quality teaching resources. It's the MOE licensing which I'm not sure how to go about doing it. Does anyone know whether Pro-Teach will apply for MOE licensing for its franchisees? How about KipMcGrath? $120,000 franchise fee seems too steep for me.. 😞 Any cheaper alternatives around?

If you join a franchise that have obtained MOE license, you should not worry about that. KipMcGrath I attended the briefing before the setup cost including the one time loyalty fee is about $60 000 to $70 000.
I think the rental fees will take out most of your profit and remember rental fees can go up. Also take note that next time when all school turn full day, Day care center and tutition center will be affected. I had a friend who opened a child care center after 3 years he give out but was lucky that he managed to cover his investment and franchise fees. Reason is because of the rental fees went up which eat into his profit. If you are a teacher why not you try to teach at home and when you have enough student than open a center. If you are teacher it is very easy to get student.

Is it convenient to post here which franchise your friend went into? What was the market that your friend's child care centre catered to? Or an indication of what were the fees that your friend's centre charged per child?

Just curious to find out

hi, nono.. it's not true that if I join a franchisee with ready MOE licensing, it's \"safe\". MOE states that it's CENTER-SPECIFIC. meaning, licensing must be issued for ALL individual branches. I've spoken to a few franchise businesses which do not help their franchisees get licensing... this is the biggest headache though.. 😞

hi , thanks for your replies and guidance. My intention is not so much to set up child care centres … i’m more inclined towards setting up tuition centres instead . Pro-Teach and Just Education seems suitable choices. Any comments on these centres? Just Education publishes assessment books. Pro-Teach has overseas branches now too! Their founder is really capable to manage so many branches throughout Singapore! They’re really making it big. Does anyone has experiences as franchisees? Thanks in advance!

                    Hi there,
Happen to see your post but don't mind me being kay-poh but getting into franchises involved hugh sum of money and no guarantee of hugh returns. I've known some friends whom complained the high costs involved. What I think is that you can start small and do teaching yourself. I've got a close friend who did tuition centre himself for the past 5 years and his student grew till date slightly more than 100 students. But I got to say that he's very passionate about what he's doing. Give it a thought...

He opened KinderLand. For child care your profit is limited because the number of children that you can take in is limited to the your space and 1 teacher to 8 or 10 children. So if you got 11 children you need to employ 2 teachers. Profit is fixed, rental cost is not when it went up your profit will be reduce. If you take franchise you can't turn the place to tutition center during weekend to end some extra. I guess in any biz in S'pore we have to be very careful of rental fees unless you are doing internetmarketing.
