      Help, anyone? :please:

      A bus started it's journey from a bus interchange. At the first stop, 1/3 of the passengers alighted and 18 people boarded. At the next stop, 1/4 of the new total number of passengers alighted and 9 people boarded. Now there are 60 passengers. How many passengers started the trip from the bus interchange?

        This question uses work backwards approach.

        60-9 = 51
        51 people -> 3 parts (1 part alighted)
        so 1 part -> 17 people
        Number of people on board before 1/4 alighted -> 51 + 17 = 68
        68-18 = 50
        50 people -> 2 parts ( 1 part alighted)
        so 1 part -> 25 people

        Hence original number of people on board = 25x3 = 75

        In diagram form:

              She always say only food can make her work better. :roll:
              No food no energy to think. But i think it makes her distracted & sleepy.
              Cos she really eats too much. One month school hols dunno gain how much weight. :nailbite:

              She gave feedback that your working is clearer or better understood by her
              instead of the drawing. Thanks agn. :salute:

                    Hi

                    How to solve the below using models?

                    1) Mrs Kim has a string 407cm long. She used 80.6cm of the string to tie some old newspaper. She used some of the remaining string to tie 7 parcels. She had 21.9cm of string left. If she used equal length of string to tie up each parcel, find the length of string she used to tie up each parcel.

                    2) The total cost of 5 rulers and 2 books was $18. If 2 books cost as much as 5 rulers, what was the cost of 5 books?

                    TIA.
