Hi, If your DD is interested to try out ballet for DSA in few years time, let me share our DSA experience as for your guideline. Before submitting her application, I was told that distinction are required from grade 1-5 and my dd scored merit for her Primary too, Grade 1,2,4 in distinction and 73(merit) for G3 and 70(merit) for G5. I have decided to let her go for it (训练胆量)and gain some performance experience……Hi parents
My girl just got to know she has merit for her Primary ballet RAD exam. She looked quite disappointed she din has distinction. I told her is all alright, no need to feel so stress up.. Take it easy as this was her first time took the exam. She just started to learn only 6 month ago. She said she was not upset at all, and will want to continue to take her grade 1 next year. Actually her teacher told me she dance very well in class, one of her best student. She is also shocked my girl din has distinction, while as one of the girl din really dance well in class has distinction.
Need some advise, should I let her continue to take the exam
Is merit consider good already?
If she want to take ballet for DSA in few years time, what is the min criteria? Let say most her grades are merit, can she still apply for DSA?
Appreciate your advise. Thank you!
Not to worry, every candidates will have chance to go through 1st auditions if they meet a minimum of RAD, CSTD grade 5 or equivalent. I remember there were more than 100 candidates during the 1st audition, candidates were asked to do some stretching to test their body flexibility. Different types of dance like jazz, ballet and Chinese dance will be tested in the small groups and all girls will have to try their very best to remember the steps cos teacher only demonstrated once. about 10% were called for the group interview for 2nd round….DD finally got it and now enjoying dance as well as study in her “DREAM SCHOOL”…GOOD LUCK

Really learnt a lot of this forum. Didnt know ballet is an avenue to DSA too. My elder girl skipped primary level and go directly to Grade 1. Think she has a merit for that...this year will be grade 2 (P2 this year). Must let her get at least grade 5 then.
My younger girl skipped primary and Grade 1 level. She will be taking grade 2 this year. Will it affect? -
Yes, many parents nowadays select CCA as a beneficial form of DSA entry into Secondary schools. They don’t anyhow choose CCAs for their kids.
1) for singing and dance related CCAs:-
=======================
example:
a) NYGH (Nanyang girls High) -
it’s Chinese cultural dance, not ballet.
b) RGSS (Raffles girls Sec)
it’s Rhythmic gym (RG), or ballet, but not Chinese dance.
c) SCGS (Singapore Chinese girls Sec)
d) MGS and St Nick - not sure.
anyone know ?
2) how about violin, gu zheng, piano ?
any Secondary school allow DSA entry via musical string instruments ? -
SCGS is definitely ballet, minium RAD grade 5 certificate.
how about come via Chinese dance too ? -

Not at all, as long as grade5 cert is submitted with the DSA application form in order to get the chance for 1st audition. -

RGS doesn't have DSA via Dance. They do offer Dance as a CCA once you enter the school.Yes, many parents nowadays select CCA as a beneficial form of DSA entry into Secondary schools. They don't anyhow choose CCAs for their kids.
