I would like to find out from parents if there is any improvement in their kids who attend TAS class especially for P1 & P2. I am thinking of sending dd to TAS but there are so many enrichment centres around that I do not know if this is the right enrichment centre for her. DD's teacher commented that she is weak in creative writing. :?:

        Hi KAN,

I have tried a few centres before joining TAS. I have 2 kids. One is in P4 and one is in K2.
Both are in TAS. My P4 loved the classes and his interest in writing picked up but I did not see concrete improvement because from what I understand, the teachers at TAS teach in themes for the compo-eg: burglary, falling down etc. So when his school teacher asks him to write about another theme eg drowning, the vocabulary used is different so he could only transfer certain vocab like the weather to the compo. So I feel it will take a while before your child can show improvement. My child could use the techniques in other compos in school but because he does not have a strong vocab, he cannot describe the scenes well unless he has already been taught those themes at TAS.

But what I see improvement in is he can remember the phrases for the themes already taught and he is able to flesh out a story more. He also varies his sentence structure more. In the other centres, I did not see any improvement at all.

          Hi ccgoh

Thank you for your reply. One more question, do they give homework to the kids?

I will probably bring dd down for their assessment first and also see if dd like the school. Can pm yr kids details for referral?

            Hi Kan,

My kid is in P1 and joined them early this year. There’s some bit of memorisation that goes on - I think this is fair becos it makes the kids remember the phrases that can be plugged in. it’s early to see if he has benefited from it, but at least now I can guide him gently and remind him of the phrases he has learnt (eg hot day, rainy day).

There is no homework per se but there may be some spelling and dictation. usually it’s either or, not both at the same time.

I have just enroll my kid for P1/P2 class. Thanks for referral here and now, if anyone needs my referral, pls pm or email me at [email protected].

FYI, referral system works for one time in each term only; that's mean $15 off term-fee for referral and referred party.
