Wow everyone is on P1topic , I am also monitoring this closely ! Btw , may I ask if you guys know if it is compulsory to let kids use car seat . I got a sedan only , now with 3 kids and a maid , I am wondering if to change to a 7 seater car instead but car is damn expensive now ! 😞

                From the traffic police website:
An approved child restraint or child seat is required if a child below 8 years old is travelling in a motor vehicle (be it as a front or rear seat passenger). In addition, the child restraint must be of an appropriate size to fit the child's height and weight. Drivers, as well as their front and rear seat adult passengers travelling in a motor vehicle are also required to wear seat belts.

Any driver who fails to belt up or ensure that the adult or child passenger is belted up commits an offence under the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Wearing of Seat Belts) Rules and is liable to a composition fine of S$120/- and 3 demerit points. If charged in court, a person shall be liable on conviction to a fine of up to $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term of up to 3 months and, in the case of a second or subsequent offence, to a fine of up to $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term of up to 6 months.
Apart from the rules, it is unsafe not to use a child restraint in a moving vehicle. An unrestrained child could become a missile during a car accident. Holding the child gives a false sense of security - during a collision, our arms may not be strong enough to hold the child down. Even the use of a seatbelt is not safe for a young child as his pelvis is not well-developed; this could result in serious internal injuries.

We have 3 child restraints in our 1.6L sedan. It is a very very tight squeeze and we can only take two adults (driver + 1). But we don't have a helper so that's sufficient for us. If we do need to take an extra passenger, I will take the bus.

We never allow an unrestrained child to sit in our car and we do not allow our children to sit unrestrained in another car (with the exception of taxis which we take very very very rarely - and when we do, I am tense throughout the journey! I would rather take the train). I fell out once with my father over this issue as wanted to bring DS1 out without a restraint. My father said he didn't put me in a child restraint, and I turned out fine! But DH and I feel it's one of those issues we are not able to compromise on. Maybe we've seen too many YouTube videos on the dangers of an unrestrained child!

I understand that many families may find this arrangement difficult as they will have to squeeze in one extra passenger than us (helper). I'm just glad I don't have to face that dilemma!

Totally agree with you on this. My DH drives a 1.6L hatchback car. I have 3 young kids and a maid. We have 3 car seats for the kids and if we need to travel to somewhere accessible by bus or mrt, my maid will take public transport. Sometimes we will go out without maid. If need to bring maid and the place is not easily assessible, I will drive the 2nd car. I will not allow my kids to sit in the car without the car seat unless really no other choice.

Your DH is worried that there's no vacancy in phase 2C or that he prefer PEPS?
