Looking for better 2nd & 3rd tier Secondary Schools
-
How about Gan Eng Seng Sec school in Central?
Any feedback?
Thanks -
Sorry but no offence. Don't mean to flood this topic but I noticed that most of the discussions on all these related topics were children who are mostly above the average, hence the discussions on the DSA, schools selection and studies on PSLE etc actually don't really answer to parents whose kids who are of the average level. We need advises, suggestions and ideas that are suitable for kids of this level, not the gifted or top schools. Which is why I thought if I am allowed to 'segregate' this topic for the kids who do not belong to the 'better' category.
Mod, if you think this is not necessary, if is fine with me. Thought this would be more convenient for parents like me who do not have kids with flying colours or are aiming for top schools. Sometimes I have problem 'finding' answers that are relevant to my child's situation because most of the parents discussing in those topics seem to have very smart or talented kids and kids who are well-groomed. -
ppnqq, no offence taken...understand your point and hence the original title stated \"2nd and 3rd tier\". I think we are in same boat - no plans to go for DSA. For this thread, I guess the mention of some schools kicked the discussion towards DSA but reality also showed that it is difficult to get information about \"better\" secondary schools. I think we have to rely on our own smaller networks and go into the specific Secondary School threads to find out more. We are in different kampong, else can group together to research...but nevertheless, all the best
Mum1113, thanks for pointing that thread to us. It is indeed useful ! -

For parents whose kids are in this category, approx 220-235, apart from distance, ccas, choose one which consistently has high valued added.
For example, btw two shortlisted schools, look at their banding, naturally, the higher the better. In the event both fall under the same band ie band 6, go for one which has the lower cop. Ultimately, you want a school to add value to your kids. -
Edureach, thanks…I am a bit lost on the banding. Is there an offical source I can check the value-added banding of a particular Secondary school? I suppose it is MOE who bands the Secondary schools ?

The banding and awards will be indicated in the S1 Choosing Your Secondary Sch booklet issued by MOE sometime after the PSLE exam. I think you can also get that from MOE website, in excel so that you can sort. -
Ah, I see…thanks Pen88n.
