Another piece of juicy info about Sim Lian and their connections for everybody's digestion....
There is another director inside Sim Lian Group with intersting connections and that is Dr Sim Loo Lee who has been an independent director of Sim Lian for 8 years now. According to Sim Lian’s annual report 2010, she was
- Appointed a Director of the Group in 2003, Dr. Sim Loo Lee is an Associate Professor at the Department of Real Estate, National University of Singapore. With effect from November 2009, Dr. Sim was appointed Lead Independent Director.
- Dr. Sim is a barrister-at-law of Lincoln’s Inn, UK, and an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court in Singapore. She is also a member of the Singapore Academy of Law.
- Dr. Sim was formerly a consultant with the Singapore Economic Development Board and the Urban Redevelopment Authority.
- Dr. Sim holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from the National University of Singapore, a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of London, UK, a Master of Science degree from the London School of Economics, UK, and a PhD from the National University of Singapore.
She has been a board director of Sim Lian since 2003 and still is one. She is also a shareholder of Sim Lian, holding 300,000 shares.
Somehow, there is one very important credential they have forgotten to include in her CV... apparently she was appointed as a board member of HDB in Dec 2005 ( http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10221p.nsf/Attachment/AR0607/$file/board_members.htm ) and only stepped down from HDB board on 1 Oct 2009 ( http://www.asiaone.com/Business/News/Story/A1Story20091001-171175.html ).
That means that she was a board member of both Sim Lian and HDB between Dec 2005 – Oct 2009.
'Interesting' developments involving Sim Lian during this period...
* Sim Lian was the first private company to work with the HDB in 2005 on the pilot DBSS project, The Premiere, in Tampines. The Singapore Exchange-listed company’s core businesses are construction and property, and its construction arm has been doing contracts for HDB flats for more than 30 years… DBSS flats were first introduced by HDB in 2005 to offer more choices and variety to “meet the demands of higher-income flat buyers” (http://blog.iproperty.com.sg/880000-dbss-flat-price-dropped-to-780000/).
* 4 October 2006: Sim Lian launched its latest development, The Premiere @ Tampines on Saturday, October 7, 2006. The Premiere @ Tampines is the first public housing project by a private developer under HDB’s DBSS.(http://info.sgx.com/webcoranncatth.nsf/VwAttachments/Att_46F6B12D27AE7B1E482571FD002CD1F3/$file/PressRelease_04Oct06.pdf?openelement).
* 5 June 2007: The Board of Directors of Sim Lian Group announced that Sim Lian Land Pte Ltd (“SLLand”), a wholly-owned subsidiary, has submitted a tender for land parcel Bishan S13 at Bishan Street 22/ Street 25 for condominium housing development and has emerged as the top bidder with a tender price of $310,000,000. The tender is currently under evaluation by the HDB and in the event that SLLand is awarded the tender, the Company will make the necessary announcement.

* 13 June 2007: Further to the announcement made on 5 June 2007, the Board of Directors of Sim Lian Group announced that Sim Lian Land Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary, has been awarded the tender for land parcel Bishan S13 at Bishan Street 22/ Street 25 (“Bishan S13”) for condominium housing development. Bishan S13 has a land area of 235,899 square feet with a plot ratio of 3.5. The maximum permissible Gross Floor Area is 825,648 square feet. The Group intends to build a luxurious high-rise residential development (http://info.sgx.com/webcoranncatth.nsf/VwAttachments/Att_9ABE3FA41BD52BA8482572F900319615/$file/announce-award.of.tender_BishanS13.pdf?openelement).
* 18 April 2009: SIM LIAN GROUP LAUNCHES SIMEI DBSS – PARC LUMIERE VIA WALK-IN SELECTION. It is a standard requirement for civil service and stat. board employees that we have to make annual declarations of our financial status and involvements with other private companies. In fact, we are not allowed to own or buy shares in those companies that our organisations have close working relationships with or whom we are partners with in our day-to-day operations as we could have benefited from insider knowledge of as yet unannounced developments between our organisations and these companies.
I guess this rule don't apply to HDB board members who seem to have no qualms about being actively involved in private development companies which are openly and actively bidding to develop State land for public housing projects.
Then again, I am sure this rule is totally redundant and should be repealed since corruption and nepotism don't exist in our government according to PM Lee.
http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=91806.msg683580;topicseen#msg683580 -
Is it true that to rent out a flat, we need to have at least occupied the flat for at least 5 years? Really doubt that people abide by the rule.
-
Hi WeiHan!
Yeah you have to stay at least 5 years in your house.Otherwise HDB take back ur house.I think, they had take back 600/60 houses, last year. You can check it in http://www.hdb.gov.sg.You can search this q there. -
It depends on several factors and the time of your flat purchase. Eg: if before and after 30 Aug, different rules applies and hence MOP also different. Also to note that if you are working/study overseas or need to work and live in business address, you are allow to rent out with HDB approval (Think quite a few Duxton @ Pinnicale also approved to rent out based on this). So not necessary cannot rent out before 5 years up…

I was searching for a place late last year and there are units that sells without COV but required major renovation. I looked for a unit around Jurong so that I could be near my work place and still forked out 30k COV :nosebleed:
