SAHM_TAN:
I only know one LC who massages very painful, and that's the one from KKH. ;D I know bc I used to be a Volunteer there helping with breastfeeding in the postnatal wards. The rest of the LCs very good leh. Especially teh one from NUH(not painful, definitely).I'm very afraid of the LCs when they show me how to nassage my breast before nursing. It's rather painful and they are so stern. I gave birth 3 times and they are so serious.
I'm a bad student for bf lessons. The LCs will show me how to get the baby to latch on and everything, but for each birth, my babies have their own pattern :rotflmao:
In the end I find my own way to bf which if the different LCs know will :faint: :rotflmao: -
phankao:
The one at KK told me must use force to massage, must get rid of the \"lumps\" so that milk will flow  . Now I can laugh but at that time I was pain. Maybe I'm too \"soft\" when I was in another hospital I still feel the LCs' massage too much for me.

I don't understand why the nurses make me feel so stress about bf. At both hospitals, they were not very supportive when my bm was not exactly overflowing. -

I don't understand why the nurses make me feel so stress about bf. At both hospitals, they were not very supportive when my bm was not exactly overflowing.[/quote]ya ya, my 1st 2 were birthed at KKH. I remember! must be the same one we got, SAHM Tan. very painful! my milk had just come in end of 2nd day and she came and pressed and said, aiyoh, rock hard, must quickly disperse it, else block duct later. then she press and squeeze and kneaded. I almost died.
1st one, not experienced, don't know can actually tell her to stop. so I just bore with it. after, very scared for any LC to touch me.
2nd one, I just let bb room in with me 24/7, only when the paed wanted to check bb in the morn did I let them carry bb away for 1h only. They said must bathe bb before check up, so 1h. (ds1 had problems latching on, so I had wondered if he was given milk by bottle in the nursery even though we said tbf, cos he seemed like he had nipple confusion, so with ds2, I was afraid same thing would happen, so paranoid abt letting him out of sight.)
buds, very curious where did you birth? every mom had the donut? i had to ask for one and they didn't have any spare for me! I later borrowed from my sis, but only after I got home. this was for no. 3 and I hurt my tailbone badly when birthing her so I really needed the ring, but had to suffer 2 days in hospital without it! dd was born in Mt E. -

My kids don't suffer from nipple confusion. During the first month, my kids have fm during night time. So that I can rest while I have the confinement lady with me.
I was more successful with my number 2 and 3. My number 1 long story, involving MIL. No.1 only about 3 mths, No2 1 yr and No3 still ongoing at 11mos. I bf direct for no3 becos I'm a SAHM now so I think she will be the longest for bfing. -
Did they do breast massage as a matter of routine, or because of engorgement? Sounds painful! I didn’t have any massage done at the hospital after delivery…but I didn’t have engorgement either.

The LCs told me to massage before bf, to prevent \"clogs\" of the milk ducts and to help with the milk flow.
So it's like SOP for them to show me how to massage and I was the prop
But there are times, when bb want to feed immediately so I gave up about the massaging after a while. I don't suffer from engorgement too, my ss is always = to demand after the end of 2nd month of delivery. -

I usually always suffer from engorgement in the 1st week or so, for all 3. Seems to me my body and the bb trying to adjust to each other and haven't got the match right yet, so at the start always engorge quite badly. Esp since 1st week my bb all tend to drink a little then sleep for long time, yet the milk suddenly come in.
But ya, like you, after 1st or 2nd month or thereabouts, usually stabilize and bb will drain everything with each feed. So I never had the chance like some of u, to have fridge full of frozen bags.

SAHM_TAN:
Express means even more milk will be produced and exacerbates your \"engorgement\" problem. If it is not too painful, just leave it to adjust with your baby's demand. If really painful, try cabbage treatment.
