Preparing kids for P5 in 2011

Honestly, I need to preserve my stamina for the REAL marathon next year...but not possible to go easy on his SA2 this year. Sorry :frustrated: , need an avenue to vent some frustrations. :stupid:

Yes, I too feel it's tough to mark compos because it's like really pretty subjective. There is no answer key like Maths

And DS has this 'problem' of writing stories which are deemed to be not credible and will not happen in real life. Then he is marked as 'fail' for content . Have been advised by teacher to remind him to keep his stories' real.

Unlike some of the parents here, I feel uneasy over 'the pontangs of regular school', how do you explain to your son the white lies that you may need to write in the excuse letter to the school. I am most impressed with your success in motiviating your son to ace chinese in a short period of time despite not knowing chinese yourself. I have a high ability son, sec 1 this year, has never like the subject chinese. It is worse this year as his whole class does not like chinese and their young chinese teacher seems not able to control them. I would like to know your view on how to motivate him to learn chinese. I am angry with him because he is not putting effort in this subject. Thank you for your time and effort.

You're not alone lah. For EL compo., we are also not able to mark. For CL compo., can still arka arka.

You're not alone lah. For EL compo., we are also not able to mark. For CL compo., can still arka arka.

Since i can't manage nor have skills to mark EL compo, I hands-off this area to retain my sanity.

Asked my son's CL tutor yesterday what I can do to improve his CL Paper 2...she told me he can 认字 on the whole. Have to memorize for the 口式
as it helps for his 作文. As for comprehension OE, choose some passages which are not too dry...that I totally agree . As for 短文填空, he has to practice more. Many kids from EL speaking families will have prob in this area.

For CL Oral, heard from dd the teacher will continuously get the class to write out the draft for those pictures discussion so as to prepare for the prelim as well as PSLE oral.

As for paper 2, usually the questions under MCQ are manageable except O&E has to more focus especially those asking \"why\", \"how\" etc.

I do remember that DD's EL spelling list also emphasis a lot on phrases ad paragraph last year.

For P6, to us seems that except Math and Science has covered some new topics the rest are more like revision.

Can you advise roughly when ‘electrical system’ will be taught ?
Term 3 or 4 ? I went through past year papers for SA1 and found questions on electrical circuit. Rosyth papers are tough.
