Good for you. Can relax.Definitely. But so far, pretty healthy type
But sometimes, I need to be careful such that I have to encourage both and not demoralize any
Whenever one has issue with schoolwork, the other will be all eager to try to help solve it (aiyah, prove themselves lah).....so I can shake leg :boogie:

Interesting... I guess in RGS they have many big fish so the pond feels crowded though the quality of water is good. So I may be the same fish but there are so many bigger ones in that pond... there are other schools that have good quality water, but I suppose no two qualities will be the same...Jumping into this thread as the subject caught my attention. It reminded me of one of RGS Principal's slide when DD went for the recent Open House. She had a slide with the question \"Big Fish, Small Pond?\" or \"Big Pond, Small Fish?\" Then she went on to say that it does not matter as at the end of the day, it is still the same fish (that is, the size of the fish is the same). It is the quality of water that matters.
Then DD turned to me and said, \"Mum, what she said is true but there are also other schools that can provide quality water.\" That was also when I realised that she wasn't keen on gaining entry to RGS ...
I guess it all depends on personality... I was big fish in small pri sch pond, small fish in big sec sch pond... was small fish in big job pond (small office size but all v capable), then move to slightly bigger fish in small job pond (large office size but v few capable), and feel very content now... no need to struggle and have great relationships with everyone...
depends on what the fish in question is like, and what the fish wants out of life... -
Agree with you- what's best for one person might not be the best for another. DD is currently big fish in small pond with reasonably good quality water and it suits her well - lots of opportunities and interesting programmes. But she is not the competitive nor the kind to speak up - so would probably drown amongst all the fish in a big pond...
Anyway, asked her to focus on her PSLE first then we think about the school - no point putting the cart before the horse. For all we know, she might not even be able to qualify to be the small fish in a big pond with exceptionally good quality water :lol:toddles:

Unfortunately, as far as SG is concerned, it's usually the parents who decide on which pond the child shd be in. -
I believe a school should also be measured on their ability to value add a child’s ability… not elite recruit elite students and continue to be elite schools

True... hopefully the parent knows the child well and helps the child get into a school that is appropriate and will help the child reach his/her potential without becoming a nervous wreck...toddles:

Serious !! No Joke
Me :spank: ..... but it gets harder & harder to do it as they get older, better to use logic and reasoning
But having been caned hard before when they were young, my kids remembered it and know it's better not to provoke me to that extent.....30% is already painful enough :nunchuk:

I used to want my DS to be big fish in a small pond even before he enter Primary school. Reason being if he is good he can excel anywhere may it big or small pond. The truth is I’m so naive - a big pond water is definitely better and even if you are a small fish there. The big pond will give you the training and exposure and make you a middle or even big fish in smaller pond. My secondary school friend was a small fish in RGPS. When she goes to a small pond with her not too bad PSLE result, she did not become a big fish there. Instead she was so use to the "not so good water quality" that she became like us. I believed if she chose to stay in RGS which her result is good enough, she will do better in her GCE "O" level and continue her studies.
