Berries - Discussion

Happy Mama:
Yes, ds there since K2. Berries helped him a lot. DS hanzi recognition is quite good for his age but his conversational mandarin really cmi since we don't speak much mandarin nor watch chinese tv programmes at home + his first chinese tutor was me so can't expect too much.
No problem. But for lower primary, it's really very effective and DD's HCL results has always been very good, except the recent SA1 where the paper was a killer, with lots of failures... Having said that, she still managed a Band 1. So Berries still works, to-date. Your DS is there too, I believe? -
May I know when is a good time to start Berries? My DD is K2 this year and her Chinese is quite poor…

I believe the best time is before P1. after P1, berries group learning for weak students may not be feasible as the materials may be too difficult by then; teacher may not have time to address individual weaknesses. Unless the kid can learn fast and both parents and kid are willing to put in effort, joining berries after P1 is also possible.
best time is N2. imo. -

I was speaking to the recep the other day and she told me that if the kid is weak in the current level, they will downgrade the kid one level down even for preschoolers.

anyone tried P3 & P4 Writing, Oral and Listening Program?

Hi Jedamum,
I am also keen on the P3 & P4 Writing, Oral and Listening Program for my boy. My boy is in P4 now. Having seen the writing and oral materials so far in their normal enrichment class, I am confident that the programme will be good and will definitely be more in-depth. They always provide good strategy and tips in the materials. It is just a matter of how the teacher deliver them, how the child absorsb them and how the parents re-enforce them.
My problem so far is I am unable to find a suitable timeslot for my boy to do this program. -

yes, i agree that the timeslot is an issue. very limited classes. -
My son is in Berries now, seems to be doing ok but I heard from friends that Berries is better for younger kids, once they are older, should move them to other centres. Anybody with kids who are P3 and above can testify to this?
